Anybody got any info if we will be getting this locally any time soon?? Played the demo and it was a pretty good rpg. I can import it using wantitall or Cd Universe but it would probably be cheaper if its going to be available locally.

Drakensang - Shipping in NA

THQ's ValuSoft doesn't seem to be in a hurry to send out a shipping PR for Drakensang, so Elkston writes in to do it for them - he tells us his copy just arrived via UPS. From our forums, it seems stock is patchy so don't be surprised if you can't find it in-store.

Here's the IGN review:

Will let you guys know how the game is. Mine just shipped from the US. Ordered it from CD Universe.

I really hope they didn't pull an Oblivion on this one by trying to make it look too real.

I still prefer some animation in fights :(

It's not even close to oblivion style of fighting much more like the old bioware/black isle games with the real time pause fighting style.

Its based on the dark eye rule set, basicly a german version of the dungeons and dragons rule set.

Enjoyed the demo a lot which is way I went to all the trouble of importing it.

For IGN to give the game such a low score there must of been some issue, will investigate more on other sites.

IGN didn't like the combat. Their criticism was unfair much of what they criticized is exactly the way the old black isle games combat worked. Its got to do with them not liking real time pause combat not the game itself.

What do others say?

Depends who you listen. Critic score is about 7.6 average but its based on only 4 reviews at metacritic, user score is 9.1 based on 28 user reviews. Most reviewers like most of the game except the combat. For me the combat isn't bad and an rpg for is about the story and character development.

I will give more feedback once my copy arrives. It takes a bit when ordering from the States usually about 3 weeks.

This one doesn't look so bad. I like RPG's coming from Europe lately. We dont see enough of these and Bioware has taken a dragons age to release a traditional RPG.

From the little that I have play it, I have one problem, and that is moving my character around, the camera seems to run away with mouse movements. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to weird keystrokes to do things.

And as others have mentioned, it's not NWN type classes, so unless you know the Dark Eye Rule set, there is a fairly steep learning curve.

Things I like, it has crafting type activities, alchemy and herb lore, plus usual Dragon slaying and Bandit bashing. Not to mention the "hot" looking folk, look good as well.
:D

How much did you pay for it? cause it's just been put on steam for $29(R299).

I paid $27.99 for the game itself and $14.24 for shipping. Its a 3 gig download so its another R300 with that R299 so I reckon mine actually works out cheaper. I could have paid $40 and had it shipped in 1-3 days but that was a bit too expensive for me, I was told by other guys who used CD Universe regularly that it usually takes 3 weeks. Been two weeks but I am patient. They say for international shipments you need to wait 30 days before getting worried so they seemed glued up as far as issues go.

CD Universe also has a policy were they will resend it if it gets lost in the post so I am covered in the case of post office or customs screwups.

The game is not bad at all, I have played much better RPG's but Drakensang is none the less a well made game. Loads of stuff to collect, 100's of things to squeesh and over all the story line and quests are solid. 8.5/10!

Will tell you guys tomorrow how the game is. Got a notice today that I can go and collect the game at the post office. Unlucky my local post office closes at 15:00. Only got at home at 14:50 so there was time to get their to pay the customs fee and collect the game. I have to pay R56(R12 clearance fee and R43.66 vat)

Got my copy. Game is really good especially the character creation and levelling system. Took me some time to get used to how the dark eye system works but once I understood that its been good. I don't get the reviewers criticism of the combat system to me its pretty good, it gets the job done. Maybe most of them aren't used to real time pause like me who played all the classical black isle rpg's, the system in drakensang is similar. Game is definitely worth it if you like old school rpg's.

I give it an 8/10.

Gamebanshee has a decent review about the game.

I installed the demo this evening and have taken it for a test run. I like this game so far and hope that it will make it to our shores.
