Drivers for Gtx480/470 not perfect yet.

Hi Guys

Did some more intensive testing over the weekend and came to the conclusion that the latest 4xx series drivers are not that well optimized yet.Certain games like Metro 2033 I can run for hours at a time and then in others like Just Cause 2 I get random crashes(sometimes 10 min's,30 min's).I know these things are brand new and in time better drivers will be out and I am sure that performance will also increase with better drivers. On another note,I saw that the voltages for these cards are different from vendor to vendor.http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/714699-post-your-gtx480-470-vids.html.Mine runs at 1.025 and that explains the ease of overclocking,I am now running stable at 800/1600/2000 and can go higher but dont realy see the need.

Cheers

Yip,on stock speeds and on oc speeds i get random crashes.Hope you get your card soon,it's pretty awesome to have one!!!Let me know if you struggle to get your card working,I had to do a few things to get mine working properly,oh and stay away from the driver on the cd-download the latest driver from the nvidia site, the one on the cd is sh%t.

Cheers

Gonna try and play around with the settings on JC2 and see if that helps at all, dont realy want to because with 16AA and 16AF it looks brilliant!!

Thanks for the heads-up. Did you see there is drivers out on Guru3d (___.55). MAybe they will give more stability.

Thanks shooter,i did see those drivers but apparently they only fix a sli/tri sli issue.I saw this morning, 5 more days or so before the new and inproved 4xx series drivers are out.I will let you know as soon as they are out,if you see it let me know. They say on the EVGA forum they are expecting good improvements!!!

Cheers

Great news there. Will keep you posted if i see it before you do. Well i am sure with every driver release things will improve on the Fermi cards. Its funny how people say they not going to buy the cards but as they come in they are sold.

Yip,also noticed that. All 3 gtx480's that Take2 had is gone!!With more mature drivers these cards are just going to get better and better.I will post back if setting changes fixes my JC2 crashes!!

Cheers

Thanks Vetbeer. Well if the card perform well...which i am sure it will , i am getting a second. Guys on other forums are watercooling the cards (just the GPU block and then use the standard heatsink) and are overclocking them far and only goes to 57-60 degrees.

I was thinking of a second one,but honestly i realy dont see the point after seeing what mine can do.Also not in the mood to upgrade my psu again.Use Msi Afterburner with your new card, you can adjust voltages with it to increase your oc's!!

Cheers

Yes been playing with Afterburner for a while now. Used it on my GTX 295's and 5870's. I want to go 3D Vision so think the 2nd card will help alot

If you are going 3d vision the second card will defintely help,on anything else I think it would be overkill.I checked on the net, there is a lot of issues with those .55 beta drivers(one guy says it has more crashes than a nascar race!!)so I am hoping that we get some mature "big bang" drivers for these cards very soon. The "nvidia audio drivers" contained in the new drivers are also causing some problems for a lot of people,I disabled them in the "device manager"

Cheers

OK got my GTX 480 and must say i am happy. Runs much cooler for me than reported. I played BC2 for more than two hours and the card never went past 76 degrees and the fan @ 45%. One thing though this card needs a Quad core or higher CPU in order to use its full potential.

Yip,thats why it shines with a overclocked I7 like mine!!Shooter have you got Just cause 2 to test with,i tried everything yesterday and still get random crashes.i see on the net some guys are having problems when the AA is set to high so I will try and turn it down and see what happens.otherwise I will do a clean install and see if that works.Installed Darkest of days again last night(very Physx intensive game) and ran the benchmark, with everything maxed and Phys-x on high I am averaging 75 fps, which is not bad at all.

Cheers

Ye this thing needs a OC Quad core. Well my dualie have to do till my Hex core arrive. Yes i have the game , will install it tonight and let you know. I must say my 5850's in crossfire runs circles around my 480 but then again that is 2 cards vs 1.

Someone just said to me a lot of guys are having similar problems with JC2 and if your re install as"administrator" it fixes the problems,so i will try that tonite.Hope you enjoy your gtx480!!!!I have not had a single regret sofar.BTW have you tried oc'ing your card,be interested to see what you can get out of yours. Was playing all day yesterday on my 800/1600/2000 settings and zero problems!

cheers

No not , will do that when i get my new CPU. This card needs horses and a dual core 550BE is not good enough. I am not regretting getting it either..With Neo saying 3D vision is not without issues i am saving for another GTX. I like overkill...lol ;)

Thanks Shooter, will try that tonight cause JC2 looks brilliant with 16 x AA and 16 x AF on the new card and I realy want to play for more than 10 min's at a time.I am kinda dissapointed about the 3d thing(saw neo's post),was hoping to go that route end of the year,oh well will maybe also add another 480!!

Cheers
