Drivers license renewal

I need to renew my driver's license. Does anyone anywhere I can get it done, besides the obvious government channels?

Spec Savers used to do it, but have stopped

Specsavers does the eyetest which you have to take to the Traffic Dept. "supposedly" making it quicker. The joke is this ... they still have to take a fingerprint scan, which is NEXT to the eyetesting machine!

That's how it works here anyway.

Kinda sucks when you consider it took home affairs only 1 week to receive my passport renewal application, make my new passport AND sms me to say I can collect it.

Thank PCFourie, from what I can gather its the traffic department, or these guys.

I could be wrong but I recall that you have to go in person for your driver's license and can only use the various Q-Guys for vehicle license renewals. Like Voicy said they still make you stand in the queue with the rest instead of just taking the Specsavers paper and taking your fingerprints.

Yup! Sadly it is the case. Good luck! I renewed my license earlier this year again for the 3rd or 4th time, though it went really quick. No real queue, so it was just eye test, finger prints and gone. I did go at 8am though.

Went to get mine renewed for the second time last year.

My advice - you can get your eyes tested outside the traffic dept - but it's usually just best to rock up early before it opens up. It still means standing outside for 30 minutes (in the cold usually) but at least once the doors are open you're in and out in about 15 - 20 minutes.

Our traffic department had the fingerprint scanner by the eye-testing machine as well
