Drives keep disappearing

OK im no novice user , but this one has me stumped , on the off chance that one of you have had the issue and found a solution I hope to find it here.

Win 7 x64
Gigabyte P67-ds3-B3
LG GH22NS70 dvd ram
2x samsung 1 tb
1x seagate 500gig
1x WD 500gig
i5 2500k
8 gig vengeance
GTX 465

the Problem
Every so often , about twice in a day I loose a drive in windows more often its the LG dvd drive
but since Sunday been the HDD as well . Just to clarify it disappears from My computer , Device manager , explorer
Often just scanning for Hardware changes brings it back up , but if not physically removing the sata cable and replacing it brings it back up. Sometimes not .(issue been going on for a while never really paid attention cause I don't use the DVD rom much)

So here's what I have tried
Checked cable connections and cables
Checked Bios drivers , upgraded bios to F3 ( could not upgrade sata drivers )
Looked for DVD rom drivers (they cant be found )
removed Virtual drives , and possible conflicting software (Nero)
Cleaned registry.

Can anyone of you guy's help or give me an insight as to what could be going on .
Any help would be appreciated.

Silly question starting with the basics:

1) Checked the IDE/SATA cable to see that it isn't faulty?
2) Checked the power to it to make sure that it's sufficient (Gfx card could be sucking it dry when the pc is running for a while etc.)

3) Tried forcing a dedicated drive letter to it ? If you go control panel / Administrative / Computer management / disk management, then force a drive letter onto the LG drive so that it doesnt' get auto assigned each time a flash drive or some such is plugged into the pc. I've "lost" hard drives which only behaved after forcing drive letters to them. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't.

I had that same sort of issue bru, remember? Gradius identified it as borked sata ports on the mobo and I had to get that Gigabyte replacement. Sounds much the same problem :/

Yes sir done the usual checks .

Mephy oh yeah bud I remember now , crap did they just swap it for you or did they make you wait

Venom sorry to be the bearer of bad news here but that kind of issue more often than not is related to the Motherboard or Drive
One of the two is acting up and will in all likelyhood need to be replaced

OK so I got the new board
But now its a Intel z68 as opposed to the gigabyte p67
First thing I tried was plugging the drive in and no surprise , it Bsod at the windows starting screen
Anyone know a way around this I really dont want to reinstal windows

ahhh man , well thank god for multiple machines at home
Its not the reinstall of windows that gets me its the reinstal of my games and programs , and I just did this reinstall when I built this machine , oh well better get cracking .

GL Dude and yeah I know what you mean, the installation of everything that goes ONTO Windows is genrally what eats up eveneings

so windows is installed , now for steam , and PS an Chrome and Games and and and ........................
going to be a long night , i need to invent a better way of this .

OOOOOH crap I lost my batman AC save mofo

Ok sorry to hijack the thread a bit but it looks like my brother is having a similar problem.
His DVD drive disappears when he puts movie discs in but with game discs it remains.
Anybody have any idea what the problem could be?
He is using Windows 7 32 bit.

Simon one of 2 things , trust me I have searched it
Either the Drive is faulty or the Board
In my case it was the sata ports like Mephy said it seems to be a common flaw with Gigabyte boards so common the guys at Rectron didn't even ask what the problem was all they asked was do you want a replacement or something else.

You will read lots of threads online about drivers and such but honestly Win 7 does a good job on drivers.
You could check out faulty cables.
I suggest try that drive in another machine , and another drive in this one . That should point you in the right direction one way or the other.

Ok thanks, I will get him to plug his dvd drive in my computer and see what happens. I just find it strange that it only happens with movie dvds rather then games and movies. Problem is is that he is so vrek lazy that he won't even try my monitor to see what is up with the streaks across his screen before the warranty falls away of his stuff.
