DSTV...ho-hum

Let's start this off by saying I absoultely despise EVERYTHING SABC 1,2,3 and etv related. The drivel they spew out is not only ancient, but cycles bi-monthly. (too bad there is not a puke smiley; would've come in handy right about now).

Thus DSTV is the clear answer. However, with the novelty now worn off; I find myself watching a max of 15 channels.

Is there anyway to subscribe to these channels exclusively and in so doing lower that mind-blowing monthly subscription of R500.

Shot for the help in advance.

Not really, boquets are set chanels, you have no choice. It's either full DSTV or DSTV compact.

I bought my parents a decoder & dish for xmas one year. They pay the subs and keep the remotes. Apart from recorded nat geo snakes & sharks I honestly cannot remember when last I've sat down to watch tv (that includes a full sport match).

I honestly couldn't be bothered less. But that's just me.

Sadly not.

However, On Digital Media is launching at the beginning of next year. They will allow you to create your own bouquets by selecting the channels you want and paying a subscription fee accordingly.

Which channels do you watch? You may want to switch to DStv Compact should it include a number of the channels you are interested in, in the mean time.

Thanks guys.

I've checked out Compact. And to be blunt; its ballsack. Doesn't have all the channels I want.

I mainly watch the sport, movie and doucumentary channels. But Lydon; On Digital Media sounds interesting. Which channels will they offer and what will the pricing scheme be?

Well, they are so inept that there have been no press releases in months and their website is also way out of date. So ja, not holding out too much hope of them being capable .... if they even ever get going.

My parent also have the duel view PVR decoder with full package. I watch the odd hour of discovery or History or BBC Knoweldge every now and again. Use to watch way more but between gaming, work and love life i find little time now. Red enjoys the movies.

Lies ;) They had a press release the other day. They said that ICASA are giving them trouble regarding licensing issues, hence them taking so long to get up and running.

Thanks guys.

They haven't released a list of channels yet, but they did mention prices that are like half of DStv's current model. I'm sure it will adjust according to the channels you choose for your bouquet though. Time will tell :D

Just holding thumbs that the channels are great and the price per channel is reasonable.

Having a press release to bitch at ICASA doesn't help the consumers though, lol. I'm adopting a wait and see attitude ....... I've been burned too much before to hold out hope that we will get something fairly decent for a good price ;)

I agree with Lydon. I'm an optimist. My brother recently returned from the whole two year UK working visa thing. And he said Sky there is absolutely awesome. They have something like 7 MTV channels (can you say MTV Alternative, anyone?).

Now before any naysayers dive onto the whole "we'll never get American/European quality service" bandwagon, I'll pre-empt you and say I agree.

Even if we get a watered-down Sky; it'll still be better than DSTV and its complement of retarded shows no one watches.
