Duke Nukem 3D confirmed - uses Unreal Engine 3

DNF was made with the UT3 engine? Thats amazing!!! Because it look 5 years old!! Unreal Tournament 3 looks amazing, even for todays standards.

Edit: Had a look at a vid of it. Seems like these guys/gals can tech Gearbox a thing or two!

Keeping my eye on it.

From what i understand they not using everything... can only hope that they can mend what DNF has done... But as it is a remake, guess lot of people will head out to purchase it... I will not be on that ship again once released... I will wait as i did with DNF.

Ah, but the Unreal Engine 3 is, in fact, 5 years old. The first game using it came out in 2006.

Also the article is talking about a new game (DN3D remake), not DNF. DNF uses version 2.5. Yep a 14-year development cycle and a 7-year old engine.

Duke 3D was already on Live, don't give me a remake, give me a new game! Something that'll make us forget DNF forever...

OMG are you serious... UE 2.5..... and people paid R400 for that crap?

Hey, I can't believe it either. Worse still is that PC Gamer gave it 8/10. Shows you how reliable game reviews are these days. Then again that's probably their lowest score ever considering it's an American mag.

you can't help but think they're in it for the money first and gamer satisfaction trailing far behind. The stench of the current game still hangs thickly in the air and the next is already on its way...

I have seem some video clips where they used UT3 engine to make some incredible looking videos. I think with some proper development they can make it look like a new engine.

I do get the feeling from DNF that they rushed the job and didnt care to much about the game. It was all a scheme to get some money based on the coat tails of the original Duke3D. Very dissapointing if you think its the same company that made Borderlands. I just hope they dont make the same mistake with Alien: Colonial Marine.

I'd buy this. I'm glad though that I had not yet bought DNF, I'm waiting until it becomes like R100 in the shops. I'm not saying DNF is bollox, I like Duke Nukem either way. Just not paying a new full price game's worth for it.

Err the remake is going to be free, according to the devs m8

You do know that Gearbox wasn't on board untill about the last year and a half to two years of development right? According to Randy Pitchford (the CEO of Gearbox) the game was pretty much finished when they started working on it and they just added some finishing touches and polished it, as well as added the multiplayer. He wanted to stick to the vision of the original 3D Realms developers and that's why they didn't change much. Also, he bought the Duke IP with his own money and shipped the unshippable game. It's not about money for him, it's about his love for the Duke (Duke Nukem 3D was the first game he worked on in his career in the games industry).

People who say DNF sucks should remove the sticks from their asses and stop comparing it to games of today. Yes, it did only release this year but it is essentially a 12 year old game with 12 year old game mechanics. I loved DNF even though it's pretty dated in terms of both visuals and game mechanics, the only reason I stopped playing is because I somehow lost my savegames so I'm just waiting for a friend to finish it so I can copy his savegame directory and continue from where I was.

Aaah connected dots as I've been saying all along, but that ability comes via the micro-transaction for most ;)
