Duke Nukem Forever Hands On

yes it can, because it takes the piss, almost all of the games today take themselves and their story way too seriously.

subject matter almost always has to be dark or brooding, flavor of the week enemies based on terrorist organization x, y or z or what ever else.

yes some games incorporate humor, but to be perfectly honest 8 out of every 10 shooters is almost always "serious business" and almost no fun.

not that it's bad, just tiring really

Duke Nukem is unlike any other main character in any shooter. I don't think that we should be looking for a good story. Instead, enjoy what the game set out to do: kick alien ass and listen to Duke's one-liners. If you want a great story, then by all means play Mass Effect, Oblivion, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, etc.

For those of us who actually understand what this game is all about, we will keep our traps shut and enjoy the game for what it is.

I agree, which is why i linked to Metacritic. One reviewer can be biased or just full of crap. metacritic takes the average. Mappy you know it is impossible to play every title that comes out, we read reviews and then based our decision of weather to buy or not on the facts in those reviews. The fact the blacksite got bad reviews doesn't mean it was a game everybody would have but it is general agreed upon that it was a sub par game.

Serious Sam, Borderlands, Bulletstorm? Yes shooters take them selves seriously nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with a game like Bulletstom that just takes the piss but the key feature is that these games, however silly, adhere to at least a few modern staples in shooters; decent graphics, good character modeling, innovative level design etc.

I grew up with DN3D one of the first shooters I played back in the day but like most people from that era i am now approaching 30, married etc the things that appealed to me back then nolonger do.

Everyone seems to get to and then stop at "kick ass and chew bubblegum" and somehow got it in their heads that I want duke to come out of the closet as a secret follower of gordon freeman. In both the articles i quoted it talked about it lacking the technical standards of todays shooter IE boring level design, dated graphics etc. Im all for "kicking ass and chewing bubblegum" but only if i can do it in a game that at least feels like it was made sometime after y2k.

Same, I again enjoyed Jericho. Reviews these days don't rate the games themselves, but the size of the fanboy base.

No ones said you shouldn't. This entire thread is the opinions of a few people. It would be weak to let anyone's except your own change that.

Why such hostility? Are you part of the team doing the game? Or just a "Die-hard Fan"?

Either way dude you need to take a box no less of chill pills.

Omega, FUCK THE CURRENT SHOOTER ECOSYSTEM. If the game isn't popular, than tough. I'll still buy it and I'll still love it. I admit I've never played any of the older duke nukem games, but I've played and loved all the rip-offs such as Serious Sam. It's not about pushing the envelope of graphical or gameplay technology or a drama about emo teen true love and sparkly ass vampires. It's a Big Mac, not caviar.
