Duke Nukem Forever review roundup

Duke Nukem Forever is exactly what I expected it to be.
I dont understand all the flaming thats going on , obviously there wasnt constant coding of the game over the past decade ,
on the contrary , so many times the engine was dumped for a newer one and then so much had to be re worked.
I blame George for that , him being insane about the development of the game really hurt it.
I now hope that Gearbox has the IP , they can release their own version of Duke entirely produced by them.
They finished the game with what they had and Take2 wanted the game to be released , refusing to throw more money down the deep dark hole that was the vaporware production time they had to show for their money.
Gearbox did what was expected and I must say , I enjoy duke as much as I did back in the duke3d days.
Is it going to win design awards ? Probably not.
Is it worth buying ? For me , yes , been waiting since school days for this game and I can thank nostalgia for the fun I am having with it.
Would I have the same level of enjoyment if I didnt have the old duke3d to relate to ? I doubt it.

At the very least paying for the game shows take2 that the Duke IP is one worth spending money on and I wish gearbox the best of luck in future projects.

magically forgotten by most ;)

It plays exactly as it would have back in '96, no point in expecting another crysis or borderlands when clearly it's meant to be... Brain Dead Action...

.

No mate Bulletstorm was a crap game. Predictable, repetitive and utterly forgettable. In a competitive market I refuse to waste money on something that "isn't made to be the best". If a developer is willing to pass off a lack luster title like this as AAA title with the excuse that "it wasn't made to be the best" they can't get my money. I'll wait for bargin bin or pre-owned... if that.

Okay, to be fair, I didn't buy BulletStorm but rather borrowed it from a friend and it has made the way through my circle of gaming friends. I guess since only one of us had to actually spend money on it, the rest of us could enjoy it for what it was. But we all enjoyed it. Maybe because we had no expectations. Maybe because we enjoyed the break from realism and we could just escape for a couple of hours.

I have reconsidered on DNF. I will wait till I can rent/borrow it and give it a try then...

This should have hit the shelves in 2001!!!
But by todays standards, they need a full team of programmers to produce a great game, not a handfull that worked FOREVER on DNF, sadly.

I am playing DNF on my PC and am LOVING it. Yeah, the gfx are not the best, but this game rawks!!!!

If you don't like naked chicks, coarse humor, "roleplay toilet movements", kicking ass, and all around fun, then go play gears of war or something ;-) Oh did I mention lap dances :-)

This game is great, not on any one single thing, its how it was put together which makes it great. Shooting hoops, playing pinball, going to the gym, squishing tiny aliens, fighting huge bosses, so much to do and see in Duke and so many subtle references to other games. This game is great.

were does one get the lap dance. i finished the game. I remember the strip bar were duke was about to get one then woke up.

If the game is such an old school romp, why must we pay new school prices? I'm sure there is a lot of nostalgia etc, but to me it feels like a massive cash in from someone.

I was disappointed to read the reviews. I knew in advance that graphically it wasn't gonna win any awards but it still looked to capture the awesomeness of Duke Nukem 3D. I will still pick up this game at a later point.

Problem is, I'm not spending +-R500 to "see" if I like it :p
That is why there are reviews, if the mayority says it's bad then chances are I'm not going to enjoy it.

I agree to some extent. If the game costs +-R500 I will not spend that amount too; but should I get it for a good price when the price drops, I'll give it a try.

IMO I also think one should be a Duke Nukem fan and have played the previous games to "understand" the whole Duke Nukem saga and where it came from and take that for what it is when writing a review. (just my 2 cents opinion)

Loving it, don`t see where all the hating comes from, I know it took damn long to make... but what did everyone expect? the second coming?

I like the character of the game, it stays true to the original, and it feels like the original. Technologically its not the best out there, but when duke3d came out it was technologically inferior to the likes of quake, .Best of all, it doesn`t take itself seriously. Its corny... but that is what I expected... I know duke3d wasn`t a storytelling masterpiece, and I didn`t expect the same from forever.

When I got shrunk and climbed into a miniature car, i knew that this was a diamond in the rough. a Break from pretentious AAA games taking themselves too seriously.

The overwhelming corniness is refreshing

I hope mygaming will give it a break with their review
