Dungeon Siege III steam fail..... - SOLVED

I'm trying to install DS3 from the DVD but it's a no go...

I tried everything!!

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E: etc
I also tried unplugging my network cable in an effort to try and force steam to install from the DVD but with no luck..

Has anyone else had this with the retail copy?!

This is really frustrating..looks like this one's going on the heap..

any error messages when you pop in the dvd and try to install ?

have you tried it again after deleting your registry.blob ?

Hey dude,

No hey, no error messages. I just always starts downloading instead of actually installing from the DVD. :/

I'll try the blob file and see it that works. Will let you know.

There is a KB to fix that.

what i would do normally:
1) right click on the game in your games lib.
2) stop all downloads of the game.
3) delete local content.
4) retry the dvd install.

...not sure about the kb it's somewhere.

YO dude!

Deleting the blob file did the trick! I cound't make sense of it in my mind why deleting the clientregistry file would make it install from the disk, but it's installing now! Haha... Thanks dude!

Deleting the clientregistry.blob file works for steam like rebooting works for windows.

like CTRL+ALT+DEL is to windows so is the clientregistry.bob for steam :D

Got the exact same crap for Rift, from backup it just started downloading. Removed local files and just copied my steam rift folder over to the other pc.

Prophet, can we sticky this somewhere as this is bound to happen again to someone else.

The solution was to delete the clientregistry.blob file as Prophet said. I re-inserted that disc more than all the discs that had ever been inserted into that DVD-Rom and it still didn't work. Until I deleted that file. :D

Yep, but think of all the frustration you would have avoided if this was 'stickied' somewhere ;)

Hmm sorry, I though you quoted the "re-insert" the CD part as the solution, which wasn't the solution. Just don't want someone to fall for that shit like I did. I was retrying that crap for about an hour and finally gave up.
