Dungeons Exclusive Impressions - Building Gimmicks and Luring Heroes to Their Demise -- GameSpot

Kalypso Media's unusual strategy game Dungeons will make you the lord and master of a dank demesne. And as lord of the dungeon, your primary income will come from luring unsuspecting heroes to their inevitable doom. Yes, the game has light role-playing elements (such as ability scores and experience points) built around your dungeon lord--an evil mastermind with really cool armor and a sharp sword. But it's really a strategy game that focuses on how you build out your dungeon in response to the motivations of invading heroes, borrowing elements from both the cult classic Dungeon Keeper and RollerCoaster Tycoon.

In Dungeons, your dungeon lord begins his adventure in the dank confines of a subterranean lair, with very little in the way of real estate aside from the heart of the dungeon, a giant, beating heart carved out of stone from which your character will respawn if slain by wandering heroes. However, you also have command of a crew of goblin workers who will hollow out new areas from the surrounding stone, at once collecting a armored fistful of gold for your coffers and making way for a new room, which you can designate for a specific purpose, such as a treasure trove, a library of rare tomes, or a prison for heroes.

If you could see the wide grin on my face right now. A Dungeon Keeper-esque game is on its way!!!! :D

Scheduled for release in February next year :)

The following lyrics come to mind:

I'm so excited.
I just can't hide it.
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I want you

Can't wait, can't wait, CAN'T WAIT! Been hoping sooooo much for a new Dungeon Keeper and this might be it! :D

I was actually thinking about this game the other day. I must have it:D

I only heard about it for the first time earlier today thanks to Dentar. As I said... DO WANT. I'm a little miffed about the lack of multiplayer, but oooooh, to have my own dungeon and minions again and even my very own avatar.... *BEAM* :D

OH OH OH :D :D :D

If this is anything like teh DK & Horny, it will be instantly WIN :D Damn, been waiting years for a DK like game.

Oh yeah, lost many hours to DK and DK2, also been waiting ages for another type of game like this.
Loved taking control of my more powerful minions (like vamps) and going on commando runs into enemy dungeons.

Please people don't compare the games or else you will be disappointed. I for one missed out on dungeon keeper.

Woo Hoo! I'd love to know how the hell this features elements from Roller Coaster Tycoon. Are we going to be building subterranean roller coasters!? YES PLEASE!!

Oi! I'll have you know I've been doing my absolute best to overlook that little mention. Stop drawing attention to it!!!

I suspect it borrows more from RCT's economic mechanics than play-style. Although... who knows ^.^

Dungeon heart? ✓
Minions at your command? ✓
Ultimately ruining the lives of goodly folk? ✓
Your very own avatar with which to wreak havoc? ✓
Do want? ✓

BRING IT, BABY!

Geez they must be trying to dance around all the legal ins and out because it sure as hell sounds like Dungeon Keeper, right down to the "rooms" they mentioned.

Still, DK was one of my first PC games and I LOVED it to pieces, so I'll happily take a decent clone!

Please gaming gods, let this be a worthy keeper clone. Amen.

That is so sad. You can absolutely still play DK2. You should do yourself the favour.

DK2 is still a freakin' awesome game to play. I recently played it through again. A bit finicky to get working on Win7 x64 but not insurmountable.
