Dvd-rom goes bust

Hey, I just got Far Cry 2 as gift and have been playing today, but then this evening my dvd-rom died. So I'm going to go and get another one sometime next week, but still want to jam Far Cry, would there be any negative effects if I just download a crack and would I be able to still get updates and play online if I do apply the crack, lastly when I get another drive I'll just unistall and re-install far cry, but think it would mess up my saved games?

No you will not be able to download any patches. Unless you get the latest crack. And I think you should be able to still play online.

kwl, I found a crack, was just a single .exe and made a copy of the original so I can revert back later.
