E3 2015: Forza motorsport 6 rains on exactly zero parades

The Forza series' biggest problem is that it has no problems. Literally every single Forza game has ranged from great to frickin' fantastic. It is now the definitive simulation racing series in the world -- there's no disputing that -- and every year it must leap over the lofty bar that Forza itself sets. After a quick race in Forza Motorsport 6, it seems to be on the right track to doing just that. Again. Ho-hum.


I took a quick lap in a red Audi RS4 sedan in the rain, beginning in cockpit view. We were of course introduced to inclement weather in Forza last fall in the phenomenal open-world Forza Horizon 2, and it moves over seamlessly to Forza Motorsport 6, with which it shares a base graphics engine. The ballyhooed 3D puddles sound like a lame gimmick, but in fact they serve the gameplay by causing hydroplaning on certain spots in the track. Trust me, it will make you nervous; I even wrecked right as I was about to finish, dropping me down to 10th place out of 24 (24-player multiplayer races are also new). As I played, a Turn 10 developer noted that there are over 560 puddles on the epic Nurburgring track -- all accurately modeled based on where the water would pool on the course in real life. Read that last sentence again and be reminded of how we live in the gilded age of video games.


Speaking of tracks, Forza 6 returns every raceway from Forza 5, including everything that was added as DLC, such as the Long Beach and the aforementioned 'Ring. Ten new tracks will also squeeze onto the Xbox One game disc, as well as 450(!) cars in the car porn-tastic ForzaVista mode. Nighttime racing is also in, as well as pretty much everything else you hoped that Forza 5 had but didn't because it was a Day-One launch title for the system.

I don't envy Forza's position every year of having to try and fire up fans for a game that, according to its track record, is almost guaranteed to be at the top of its class. But I sure do appreciate it.

The fanboy is strong in this one IGN! :)

That said, Forza 6 may just be the straw that eventually breaks my wallets' back. Especially now that 360 games will be compatible.
 
Wow what a fanboy article I am happy forza is getting rain and night time racing but these are hardly new features.

it is a fanboy article but mention 1 console game that does rain and night weather at 60 fps ?

Driveclub = 30 fps
Forza horizon 2 = 30 fps
Project Cars = 30s to 40's with weather (according to digital foundry)

Previous gen = GT 5 & 6 +- 35 to 45 fps at best (depends on the tracks)
PGR 4 = 30 FPS

Forza is setting the Racing bar on console, yes project cars has probably got a more accurate handling model, but Forza has over 450 High POLY FORZA VISTA CARS, not 1 single carryover from a previous gen racing game like polyphony like to do.

and they achieve all of these feats in 2 year cycles. not 5 years :rolleyes:

That project cars fps is when there are 40+ cars are on track and I think gt had night and rain races but that was on the ps2 lol.I also have to say that those other games you mentio are doing those features dynamically.
