Electronic Arts announced today that John Riccitiello will step down as chief executive officer and as a member of the Board of Directors effective March 30.

"This is a tough decision, but it all comes down to accountability," Riccitiello wrote in his resignation letter to the board. "The progress EA has made on transitioning to digital games and services is something I'm extremely proud of. However, it currently looks like we will come in at the low end of, or slightly below, the financial guidance we issued in January, and we have fallen short of the internal operating plan we set one year ago. EA's shareholders and employees expect better and I am accountable for the miss."

The truth is he was probably under a lot of scrutiny for 2012 being such a shit year for EA, and either he couldn't handle the scrutiny or he was pressured into resigning.

I feel a bit bad for the oke, but maybe this will bring about good change in the company. Maybe. Likely not.

eish...

the one guy that wanted to invest in new ip goes. and they go back to the guy that 100% put profit in front of quality...

not good

crack theory time...

new "old" ceo is gonna go to all companies in ea, ie guys like maxis who have/had massive contraversies with titles, tuning them fix your shit to set him up as saviour dude in the media's eyes, then bam off world slavery

I want to see EA president Frank Gibeau go as well. He seems to be the driving force behind DRM and multiplayer on singleplayer games.

Gibeau adds that he has not green-lit one game to be developed as a single-player experience; instead, EA will only develop titles that include online applications and digital services.

I think it's only temporary until they find another CEO to take up the position permanently.
