EA is using origin to exclusively sell its new games

/acts surprised

I'm with Prophet on this one, it was only a matter of time before this happened. Clever move, EA is one of the (If not the) biggest gaming company in the world. It will really hurt Steam, plus EA make more money. Although it will be many years before they can even start thinking about competing with Steam!

They would need to compete well! I don't see myself making use of their service anytime soon, not with their current service offering etc

+1 and such.

Unless EA suddenly starts redefining the very laws of gaming and subsequently the entire universe, colour me unimpressed and uninterested.

By the time everyone is done raping my PC with their respective "client platforms" I wont be able to play anything!

10 Years from now... said:
BREAKING NEWS! GAMERS SPEND MORE TIME DISABLING, UPDATING, RE-CONFIGURING AND GENERALLY MUCKING ABOUT WITH 37 DIFFERENT GAMING CLIENT PLATFORMS THAN THEY DO PLAYING THE ACTUAL FARKING GAMES!

yay more people to trust with credit card numbers and other sensitive personal info.....

As good as a scratched disk.

Scratched disk you can at least put back in it's box and use it as some weird decorative value.
A "lost" digital product is utterly and completely, in every possible meaning of the word, useless.

As useless as this seems now, STEAM was not without a lot of faults at launch. STEAM has since been improved a hellava lot as we all can attest to. Origin will go through the same motions. They will learn, listen, adapt and improve. If not...they will fail. STEAM was a lonely newcomer with no real competition in the digital download arena, where now it is King, Origin will have to step up to match it.

Will just buy my EA games at a store for a while until they wisen up is all. No biggy.

I really don't need a second system to purchase games. I hope EA games don't start forcing you to require a origin account.

"Forthcoming BioWare MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will not demand that you run EA's new Origin application in order to play.

BioWare community manager Stephen Reid took to the game's official forums today to clarify that although the game is a digital exclusive for the new online store, you won't need to have the Origin app on your desktop to play or patch the game.

"While Origin will be the exclusive digital retailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, that does not mean that Origin is required for you to access or play The Old Republic," he explained.

"Origin is a digital storefront, and the desktop application is there to give you quick access to Origin exclusives and deals. However, you won't need to launch the Origin application to run The Old Republic, nor will you patch the game via Origin.

"Once the game is on your hard disk, you'll be connecting to our servers to patch and launch the game, and Origin does not have to be running to do that."

So, pick up a boxed version and you shouldn't have to touch EA's store, if that's your wish. That said, Reid also noted in his post that physical copies of the game will include the Origin client on a disc."

ok, so even if it was steam that pulled the games off and not EA (like they claim at this point)...

Can someone please explain to me what the point of Origin is?? Because without a community option/patching feature/updating of game etc etc I really see not point other than controlling a method of sales ie. to make the most money possible
