EA marketing campaign was designed to trick customers, says developer American McGee

That trailer wanted me to pick it up, but then I saw some of the actual gameplay and cutscenes and well, I'm yet to pick it up in the bargain bin. It just seems to hold back too much, no sense of horror, flashy etc.

Same here. Even the brutal cutscenes in the game make it look like an intense horror game, but the actual game is little more than an interesting platformer with a beautiful environment. There is absolutely no trail of horror in the gameplay itself.
 
I bought it, but not because of the trailer... It was on 75% off special, so I looked at some pictures and clips and thought: "yeah, It'll do"... and then caved on the special "whistling:
