Early access games thread

Came across what appears to be another gem to look forward to, especially for DnD and/or Roguelike fans;

And it looks like it will be out before the end of the year, which is great.

The problem I have with so many EA games is that they don't seem to have a solid dev plan and will be in Early Access indefinitely or until the devs decide they're tired of working on it.

This is mostly true, the amount of games you see come from Greenlight and just stay in Early Access for so long. And this is why when buying an Early Access game, I won't buy the type that is dependant on story or character driven. Rather buy something that is gameplay mechanic based. This is where titles like DayZ/H1Z1/Rust/Besieged all excel. They don't need a narrative to hold their own.

I'll be picking this one up. Although I don't usually agree with Early Access, for the $7 this already has enough content to satisfy me. If something goes wrong, which hopefully it won't, I won't feel burnt. They need to add a PvP mode though. Battling a friend would be amazing!

The long Dark is one of my favorites. I played it for about 12 hours so far. And it's great fun, exploration focused mostly.

Space Engineers I am at just over 20 hours. And the building aspect of it is great, Legos in space basically. It has some great ideas, and the community keep adding more amazing features to the game. Also planets are a planned feature for the game now :D

I think those are the only 2 early access games I have. However I am also looking at other ones, such as:

Fractured Space looks promising:

Kinetic Void is another promising Space game:

War for the Overworld will probably be my next buy:

Interstellar Marines for those of you that want a co-op shooter:

I've played a fair few hours of The Long Dark myself, but I seem to find it hard to get into the game. I mean I should love this; this game is totally my type, but I just can't seem to get a grip with it. Where did you find info on the crafting aspect of the game? I'm struggling to keep myself alive for longer than about 30 in game hours. Maybe I just suck at the game.

What exactly are you struggling with? I might be able to assist.
In the last update they changed the UI around a bit and it took me a while to notice some of the changes.

So yeah this is going to out me as a total noob, but here goes:

So I manage to get a few resources from some of the cabins that I find, but I'm struggling to find any weapons or means of defending myself. I've tried crafting, but I never seem to find everything I need before a wolf eats my face.

So I have food, water and winter clothes, but no ways to fend off the wolves.

In the last update it shows you which items are better than others if you look at the stats on the right when you are looking through your inventory.

But there are some things to consider when you are playing the game in general:
1. The more you carry, the slower you move.
2. Any food or gear you currently carry wears out over time.
2.1. However if you store it somewhere other than your backpack, it stays in the same condition.
3. The hunting knife / knife in general is probably the best current weapon out there.
3.1. You can find it mostly close to craft tables or on bodies, however the second is a lot more rare.
3.2. Keep a lot of metal parts / trash with you to fix the knife.
3.3. If a wolf or bear or some other creature attacks you then make sure to have the knife equipped. There is no clear strategy here, just wait for the perfect time to strike.

From my last play through it took 4 shots from a rifle to down a bear. So really not worth it.
Wood is probably one of the most important loot in the game. So try and always keep 1 or 2 piles of furwood on you.

Can't think of anything else right now...
