Earth tremor in South Africa

Roughly a minute-long earth tremor was felt in various parts of the country including Sapa's offices in Greenside, Johannesburg, after midday on Tuesday.

Sapa's building shook and pictures and computers rattled during the extended tremor.

Sapa's reporter in Durban said the tremor was felt there too and people went out to the streets.

At Durban Bay House, one of the tallest buildings in the city, people had evacuated the building.

Despite the dangers of quakes, I'm kinda sad we didn't feel it down here in the Southern Cape :(

When it hit, the first thing that went through my mind was not that it was a quake. I thought part of the building on the far side of the complex was collapsing. Then I thought it was a truck or something big that hit the building. That's what it felt like at first. I was basically just running through possible disaster scenarios until the penny dropped. And to add to the creepiness factor, all the radio stations went dead for about two hours after it hit. I kept thinking "I've seen this movie before. The zombies will be shuffling into the office any minute now."
