El33t’s Question of the Day: Should singleplayer and multiplayer modes be sold separately?

This has been a question a couple of friends and I were discussing lately.

Some of my friends love Sp but hate MP. Those same friends are fans of the CoD and BF series and enjoy the short Sp experiences and story progressions over the course of the series but they have absolutely no desire to even dabble in the MP aspect of it.

So we thought that it would make sense for CoD and BF' SP and MP modes to be sold in separate installments. Some people do not want to pay the full retail price of e.g. R699 just to play a 4-6 hour campaign while they have a MP component that they will never touch.

And then there are those that buy Ghosts and BF4 and never even touch the SP campaign ever like me.

So it makes sense to pay for what you want and I really hope that the publishers will take note and split these up.

What's your thoughts?

Tricky. I figure if you buy a single-player game (like the vast majority of all CRPGs), you want it to be single-player. You don't want some cheap multiplayer bolted onto it at the expense of the single-player aspect of the game.

Reminds me of the Mass Effect multiplayer...

So I could understand it. But, really, I find it fascinating that there are any people who buy games like Call of Duty and/or Battlefield for the singleplayer aspect. Sure, obviously they must exist... It's just never seemed like the selling point.

After all... six hours for a campaign? That's a good demo :p

Being on the receiving end of a beating by another person can be rather annoying...

In all seriousness though, I do agree to split them. I wouldn't buy the SP versions at all.
