Elder Scrolls Online

AFAIK beta testing is not the same thing as marketing to new audiences. Unless sitting through and reporting bugs/balance issues is now a way to win over new fans and customers :P

Nah I tried to convince them that as a non MMO player I will not just know how MMO games work. So I'm more likely to break it and report on it. :)

That's certainly one angle :D

I just wrote the usual (albeit truthful) crap: I'd like to see if it's a game I'd be interested in buying later on.

I sincerely doubt that anyone is actually going to bother reading 500,000-odd "PLEASE I CAN HAS PLAY BETA" essays, so I figure whether it's short and sweet or a thesis on the complexities of juggling a career while trying to find time to play promising MMOs, chances are pretty much equal.

They'll probably pick candidates at random (possibly by cherry picking a wide spectrum of system specs) and then maybe read what anyone wrote in that last field :p

Good luck to all applicants.

I think my MMO days are well and truly behind me, but for some reason I still dip my big toe in every now and then and test the waters. So far, meh.

I have a feeling this one will be different. I've felt that the Elder Scrolls universe is the perfect setting for an MMO since loading up Oblivion for the first time, the grand scale of it just feels like it should be populated by other players. I'm hoping for a highly competitive, cutthroat world, where players can backstab each other easily.

On a side note: "Location: Sweden" I always thought you were Capetonian?!

That's what everyone (including myself) said about Old Republic: "Bioware's making it! It can't be in better hands. Star Wars is the perfect setting for an MMO!"

So I'm taking a "wait and see" approach on this one :p

I've emigrated :)

Fair enough. I thought SW had way too few factions to get it right, and was to hero focused, whereas the older Elder Scrolls felt world focused in stead of hero focused to me. When I get in beta, I'll let you know how it is :P

I've emigrated :)

 But why? I thought you were living the good live in CPT?

I hope you're right. If they can make it feel like an adventure instead of just another "grab quest; do quest" pain in the ass done-to-death MMO, then I'll be happy.

My husband and his life is here. So it made sense.

Plus...

I just watched the trailer again. My ideal, in spite of knowing that it won't be popular, would be that 5-man groups would compete in a dungeon, much like the three different groups were trying to take the tower. I want PvPvE, dammit. It'd be so awesome to get these groups to have to work together to progress, and then at a certain point (after said progressing) all bets are off and backstabbing begins! Get ganked, and you lose the end-dungeon loot (or a shout type reward).. If random drops in the dungeon was good enough, this might work.. "whistling:

Ah, last I heard he was your bf, congrats, and good for you. That's an awesome reason for emigrating! The internet helps too :D

So that means... ... ... ... ... Oh :)"whistling:

That would be interesting, yeah. I think the problem with this ideal, however, is that many MMO players are casual/semi-casual players and would immediately be turned off by this. However, I believe there is great promise for an MMO like that and I'd love to see something more "down to earth" with the same sort of permadeath/risk of EVE Online but with a more tangible risk/reward mechanic that would make sense in a game world.

I think pulling it off would be difficult and while I think there's potential for the Elder Scrolls universe to make use of something like that, I just don't see it happening.

Thanks, Avatar :) Yeah, we've been together for a while and spent a long time planning and working to get to this point. It's nice to have it over with.

I'm not shocking as what I am... I don't know... Just... It isn't shock, it's something else...
But, let's not derail this thread.

Shock probably isn't the right word. Its just I'm not used to gay people.. But you are right no derailing this thread :)

"Confessions?"

Seem to be a lot of (hopefully) "wrong" words being used in this thread :p

Hmm yes another "wrong" word did I offend you or? That's really the last thing I want to do :)

No, I don't get offended that easily; I'm just being pedantic. "Confession" indicates an admission of guilt or admitting to something a person is ashamed or feels guilty about.

Someone asked a question, I answered. Wasn't confessing anything, opening my heart up or sharing any deep dark secrets :D

I agree that it wasn't the right choice of words. Let's call it admit. Better word :)
