I'm disappointed. I thought I was rational and nice but I was actually neg-repped and called names. Not nice.

That's just it though. I'm not mocking Christianity and I'm not making false claims about it.

I'm the one who actually provided scriptures whereas you couldn't provide scriptures to back your claims.

This is logic. You don't have to become angry and aggressive. Be patient and kind. Be a Christian and speak about these things in a fashion that's becoming.

A few things regarding religious debates.

Play the ball, not the man (that goes for everyone).

The debate is open to all sides and no other side can rightly tell the other to "shut up" about it.

Finally, I find this particular topic of debate to be futile. The religious folks by nature are going to stand by their assertion that homosexuality is wrong and no amount of counter-argument is seemingly going to change their opinion. This just becomes a shouting match and makes everyone angry with one another.

It would be a happier place if people avoided the futile argument.

The topic is about Ellen Page coming out and the implications and knock-on effects of that. Unless the religious folks have anything to add beyond "It's wrong because my religion says so", then they are welcome to make their initial statement on the topic and then leave it alone for those who want to have a discussion about it.

If the chain of responses to "It's wrong because my religion says so" amounts to nothing more than a tit for tat salvo of disagreement, then it's a pretty rubbish debate.

That said, I'm not going to dictate these discussions can't happen, but if they become uncivilised and cause unhappiness among the members then its best to stop it.
 
It's a shame to see reasonable discussion degenerate into a shit-flinging contest.

I maintain that Neo is a dedicated troll. If he was truly offended, I'd don't think that he'd come back to MyGaming time and time again. He does it to stir the pot. He conveniently ignores anything that would be considered reasonable, not because he's an idiot (he seems to write reasonably well), but because he is doing this to elicit a reaction.
 
I would like to use this thread as case-in-point for what happens on this forum, and again it comes back to my VERY FIRST reply in this thread about respect.

My reply on this thread was that, as much as people want to come out of the closet and shout to the world they are gay/lesbian/chinese, I have JUST as much right to not condone that. Which, if you think about fairness and balance, is 100% correct and should not evoke argument. After all, no one should accept or condone something if they feel it's wrong. WRONG. Not on this forum. This is the internets and we hate people who do not embrace atheist (oops, I meant "popular") principles.

Then, when I said that I did not deserve the negative reps that I received for my initial reply and mentioned that my religious views simply do not allow for homosexuality - the bomb exploded. Why? Because HERE'S a chance to rope Christianity into the mix and slander it as much as we want, because we are the internets, and Christianity (especially) is not welcome here. MyGaming's ethos.

So yeah, true - I get annoyed with you all (although I shouldn't get annoyed at something as predictable) when, once again, Christianity is being ripped to shreds, falsified and generally slandered. I'm sort of getting used to that now, here. How many times has someone posted very disrespectful images about Christianity in the image thread, and everyone has a lekker chuckle? After all, why not? It's not like it was some other religion.

It still boils down to that one point though. Someone (me) went against the popular opinion....and you lot just can not respect an alternative opinion. It's that's simple. My comment about NOT personally accepting and condoning her speech SHOULD HAVE BEEN as respected as her speech itself. The very "topic" that you are defending to the teeth.

So is contraception, condoms according to the Pope yet I am sure you use both those (or your partner does). So is pork, Eating fat which I am sure you do. What about consuming alcohol in holy places (holy communion)?

It amuses me that you can blindly follow some parts of a religion but blatantly disregard other parts.

Back on topic, Ellen has snagged her first gay role opposite Julianne Moore:

Julianne Moore and Ellen Page are set to play a lesbian couple in the upcoming indie drama Freeheld, which is based on a true story, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film tells the story of the “late Laurel Hester (Moore), a New Jersey police detective whose world was shattered when she became terminally ill and government officials prevented her from assigning her pension benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Page).”

Zach Galifianakis has also joined the film in a supporting role.

Over the weekend, Ellen made headlines by coming out as a gay woman.

The only disrespect here is coming from you, Neo, who came to a forum filled with a diverse group of people with different beliefs and backgrounds, and then tried to force your beliefs down our throats. Then when this was not tolerated, you cried foul about how you were being victimised.

You seem to miss the idea behind Christianity and the whole "new" testament. Again, people who are not Christian REALLY shouldn't try and comment on it.

No offense dude, but the guy you're calling a dumbass gave an argument, quoted scriptures for emphasis, and basically made a point. If you disagree, the simple response would have been to counter-qoute, show the rationale behind the your objection or point.

Instead, what do you do? Tell him he's a dumbass without elaboration or something to at least show us where you're coming from.
