Entering comps just to give prizes to non-MyG members

Winning for someone else is a grand and knobel thing but I think you're just screwing yourself in the end as the powers of randomeness are less likely to choose you again.
So the one time you will ever win, you get something you dont want for someone else, yet you are the one who puts all the effort into the forum.

Its not dickish or unfair. its just dumb :D but at the same time............ heart warming.

Excuse me ... who is busy playing my copy of Syndicate which i won on MyG? Now shoosh.

This thread is....
20080202231407!Beating-a-dead-horse.gif

The horse died way back when the first thread about people rocking up just enter the comps thread was first posted.

Maybe it's just because I had 2 hours sleep last night, but this looks like a troll thread.

I think you're right. About the 2 hours sleep thing, not the troll thread thing. :p

I agree; everyone should sign up on the MyGaming forum and participate :P

If I don't start winning comps again I'm going to start warning people away from these forums, telling them that this site attempts to use rootkits and keyloggers to access your personal data. :P

Maybe you should give the box to the homeless guy in the alley behind KFC.:p

I have noticed on the competition threads that are people entering competitions with only one post, which is great since that means we are getting new members, but I don't think they deserve prizes since some of them enter the competition, wait for the next competition and enter hoping they win. I suggest using the old weekly giveaway system: post 10 times within the week. It increases forum activity and protects competitions from these... I don't know what to call them

Freeloaders! That's what they are!

Coming in here and just winning all these prizes that we have worked so hard to win. Gosh! It really grates my cheese. Why do we even want new members? It just makes winning that much harder to do. You know, due to odds and a little something called physics! I mean how are we supposed to contend with physics?!

I am having none of it!

Who's with me?

<_<

<_<

Anyone?

What do you mean I only have one post? No, no, don't be silly I didn't sign up just to enter a competition. What kind of a person do you think I am?

seems there are more and more people coming from nag forums

Well, that's good for MyGaming :)

I'll consider the minimum posts thing again.

The problems are:
It encourages spam-posting instead of worthwhile contribution;
With sponsored prizes (which has been the majority lately) we want participation to be easy and not restrictive so that our sponsors get legs out of their prizes and will, well, sponsor more cool stuff in future.

Well mygaming is a much better forum and nag forum keeps having problems.
/I also hope for a return of the posting count for valid entries

How about this: If its a big prize like those gaming cases, make a rule that only people with at least 30 posts can enter or something like that.

maybe change it to something like 10 post in week if you are new less than 12 months or maybe less say 6 months.
If you are here longer say than 12 months then minimum post of 200(or maybe more). that way people that just come for the comp will be encourage to to make so posts and keep spamming to minimum. While rewarding those that have been here a while and that contribute to a extend. and is part of the community they don't need to spam to be able to enter.

In all seriousness, if you start basing 'worth' on post count as opposed to post value you will always get spammers. It's the nature of the beast. At least with the current system any person just signing up for the competition will post once in that thread and disappear. If you start enforcing minimum post counts, regardless of amounts, you will end up with a string of pointless posts.

Also I am sure there is a simple way to exclude the users with less than 10 posts from winning anything any ways, without having to tell them. That way you get the best of both worlds. ;)

Well if you have a look at my comp lists I create, you will notice I do exclude those people not adhearing to the rules, however I do inform them and I do monitor spam very strictly.

Fair enough.

I was being a little factitious in saying it should not be an explicit rule. Therefore if you have hung about a bit you would have knowledge of it but if you just signed up for a competition you would not win it.

Is it a little unethical? Sure, but you can be assured that it will solve both problems quite efficiently.

Nope it's just quite simple, you spam the forum you get banned. :)

I know Sycogrim does a great job of trying to monitor all the funny stuff. Still disappointed I've only won once on Mygaming ;-) but gotta keep trying to win.
