Entire MMORPG accidentally deleted

Sounds to me like that company wanted out...
Yeah well, I suppose it's easier to fake an accident than to publish a letter saying "Fark you, get lost, we're outta here!"

Yeah, but Blizzard is smart enough to have backups, so it would probably be back online within an hour. :P
True, but I know how easily it is to say

delete from tblsomething

and accidentally leave out transaction with rollback or a criteria to remove only certain records. In fact I've accidentally wiped some of the live sites few years back by setting visual studio to delete first and then publish, but I somehow clicked the live location instead of my publication folder.

shit happens, and it does, but you are quite correct to say bliz does backup :D

I was just about to say the same thing. It's ridiculous how many there are. I mean, where do they find the people to make all of them, let alone play it?

Making games, more-so RPG games (MMO or otherwise) is fantastically easy actually.
Buy engine.
Slap models for characters and environment in. (Extra-credit: Re-use environment models EVERYWHERE to save time).
Dash some half-arse story together.
Trigger some events.
Design some loot.
???
Profit.

I wouldn't go so far as to say all RPGs are easy to make, but these Korean MMOs certainly can't take more than a month to slap together. They've probably got an MMO blueprint in Korea, and you just change it up a bit to make your own 'unique' MMO.

hmm...sounds a bit fishy to me. you saying that they had absolutely NO backup of the source code and the database?? very unlikely. more plausible explanation is that it was losing buttloads of money and it would be "dishonourable" to admit this, so they just " accidentally deleted" it.
