Entropia Universe

Entropia Universe was the first MMO I ever played, known as Project Entropia back in the day. The idea behind it is that you deposit real world money into the game at the exchange rate of $1 to 10 PED, purchase armor, weapons, land and property with it, and then do as you please. You can make a profit, break even or lose all you've deposited depending on how smart you are. You can withdraw whatever you deposit into the game or make whilst playing it and you even get an Entropia Universe credit card.

Today Mindark, the company behind the game, broke some interesting news. Basically in the next game update, a huge shift in developmental direction will occur. Instead of Mindark developing new planets for the universe, they will act as the "parent company" for independent developers to develop planets for the game. The current planet that they developed is called Calypso, which will now be handed over to another developer. Along with the handing over, the universe will be upgraded to the Crytek 2 engine (very sexy) and the planet will see some changes compared to how it used to be.

All in all I think it's a very clever idea. Creating a universe and almost renting out planets for development is not necessarily unique, but I can't think of anyone who has done it before on this scale. Essentially it's a whole load of MMO's inside of an MMO. The Entropia Universe site lists some of the planets that are coming soon.

Lol, it could ;) But you have to use your brain. A guy bought the in-game space station for $100 000 (the most money ever paid for a virtual item). He now rents out apartments, charges taxes to those who hunt in the space station's eco-dome, hosts a night club etc. and he made all that money back in a few months apparently. That dude must be rolling in the dough by now.

OMG
This is so awsome...making money from nothing...Damn I should try this.

Lydon, whats so bad about world of kung fu? Why do people say its crap?
Sorry for Hijacking the thread..but its bothering me..

Let's just say that once you've played Guild Wars or WoW for years, you expect a lot out of a game that sadly most people can't deliver (quality, updates, support etc.)

Yeah but you pay for the above mentioned games...Im playing world of kung fu for free with damn good latency and im enjoying it.

Hehe, well Guild Wars you don't pay a monthly fee for :) You just buy the box. Of course, the fact that World of Kung Fu is free is a huge draw, but even a game being free has to impress me in order for me to digest it. I've tried and failed many a time. The only one that's managed thus far to some degree is Runes of Magic.

Hey Guys/Gals
I am new to the Forum. Glad to see that there are more SA players in EU. I have been Playing Entropia for 2 years now. I moved from Cape Town Recently and had some issues with my PC after the move. For some odd reason my 1TB drive packed up and that was my backup disk:( I eventually had it replaced, thanks to warrenties, and started downloading EU client installer,3.5gb. The first and second tim I had problems with the installer being corrupt. Since we are in SA where bandwidth are treated like gold, i blew a huge gasgett and tried again thinking of the old saying. Third time LUCKY. needles to say it was not lucky. Same situation. 10gb down the drain!!!!!!!
Therefore I would like to request if someone has the installer still on disk if they can write it in disk and post it to me, I am willing to pay for postage.
