Essential Xbox games

I loved UT2004. I haven't played 3 enough to compare the two fairly, but so far I'd put them both on the same level.

yep. it was a lot better than ut 2004 imho.

No, this is blasphemy. UT2004 was the definitive title in the series. But UTIII is a worthy sequel. I've enjoyed the Warfare mode a lot too, although I'm still generally an instagib DM slut.

Agreed. Even without the multiplayer component.
I prefer Unreal to the Doom and Quake games.

Oh yes, amen. I just love the whole concept behind it. There's nothing like hearing the word "Play" and a few seconds later seeing pwnage happen :D

I always used the classic announcer myself. :)

One of my most favourite things ever in UT2004 (and still in UTIII, actually) was loading up Facing Worlds CTF with the Instagib mutator. An exercise is sheer masochism.

You're obviously mad. Fable feels so limited and inadequate next to Fable II. More like a proof of concept, where the second game actually delivered.

Yeah - and your guy looks like a lametard and you have to spend half the game eating celery sticks not to look like a WoW gamer.

Not to mention that the gear visuals SUCK and are cosmetic anyway and have no bearing on your spells/skills/defenses. Remember the awesomely kief full plate suit from Fable 1? You can't tell me that wasn't bad ass! Even the Fire Assassin suits were the bee's knees.

The weapons are also beyond gay in comparison to Fable1 ... Avon's tear, the harbinger and the bereaver...all of them AMAZING looking and felt rewarding to get.

Look at Failble2 ... you only get the 'cool' gun after you finish the game. Come now.

Also what's up with the gay silver key rewards and even more lame Demon Doors? Even after finding all of those annoying gargoyles - the reward shotgun was only useful to me after i finished the game and had that bit in the castle dungeon to do. Plus everything just looked sif.

Unlocking demon doors in #1 gave such cool rewards and the silver keys actually meant something. It takes you 50 silver keys to unlock the chest inside the castle and what's inside? 50,000 gold... Now I'm sorry ... If I just spent 1,000,000 gold to buy the castle, I'm pretty sure I'm financially independent enough not to require that kind of hand out. Plus the game is over by then anyway.

The "heroes" in this one was an obese chick and a wash out. Nothing cool like Mage and Thunder from #1. Not even close.

Then the final boss fight ... 1 average placed headshot and a long-ass cinematic later and he's down. What a pansy. Plus the bastard killed my dog.

I'm sorry...Fable2 made me a sad panda.

Well, I can't say I really cared much about the weapons and armour because I liked the story and gameplay. Besides, cool highway man gear > stupid armour any day.

As for the "obese chick" - I applaud Lionshead for having the guts to give us a female character whose CV actually included stuff besides looking good. I think the point was that any old regular-seeming person could be a hero. You know, just like the main character in the game.

You also sort of lost me at "gay". I have gay friends, and they're all quite rad.

We all have gay friends, Azimuth. I lived in PE and CT. Just like Rick Astley, I'm no stranger to love. :p

Not to rub up the gays, but there's a difference between someone who is homosexual and something being gay. We all know and use the saying. Even my homosexual black friend who cycles a lot reckons - and I quote - "It's gay to drive to the start of a cycling race in your car."

I'll rephrase gay to "silly looking and non manly." if that's more appropriate.

Ok so - the obese chick was off putting to me for the mere fact that they stereotyped her as being an ogre. No intellect or femininity other than swinging a big stick. Why did she have to be a ruffian? If lionheart wanted to embrace women as heroes -they could very well have given them a dash of dignity to go along with it. they don't need to be lara crofts, but cheese and rice - the woman knows she's big, why slap a bloody hammer in her hand and have her break stuff? She was in a monestary for Pete's sake...surely they should have powers of divinity or something. If she was working in a blacksmith's shop I'd say fine - the girl knows the ropes.

The gear just didn't look right to me. Bandit suits, assassin outfits, mage robes and plate armor were done so very well in #1...with attributes.

The storyline was ok - but not better than #1 ... not to mention the utter distraught feeling of being betrayed - nothing close to that in #2.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a huge fable fan ... Hell the very reason I bought an Xbox360 was to play Fable2. So now you can appreciate my disappointment. Keep in mind, I said Fable2 is an amazing game - just not compared to #1. Not even slightly.

I was tempted to Rickroll you, but that's so 2008. ;P

I don't know, I don't agree with you about that at all. The word "gay" has become a pejorative because being gay was (and still is, by some) considered vile and reprehensible. Describing stuff as "gay" suggests that it's rubbish or objectionable in a similar way. I don't think being gay is vile, reprehensible, rubbish or objectionable, and so I never use it in that context.

Maybe it's because I'm wordy and I think about what I'm saying a bit more than most people (I'd even concede that I overthink things sometimes, heh), but there are much better words to describe stuff you think is crap. Like "crap". I guess it's just a (sadly common) usage that's never going to sit well with me at all.

I even avoid using the word "sinister", since etymologically it means "left" or, by extension, "left-handed" (cf. churchy superstition about left-handedness and evil). Most people don't know that, of course, which sort of proves my point about people not thinking much about or realising just what they're saying. Interesting though, isn't it? :)

Oh, come now. She was hardly an ogre, and she was certainly a lot tamer than some analogous male characters (say, Minsc in Baldur's Gate). You're confusing femininity, perhaps, with dresses and petticoats and demure giggling. And in the absence of that, all you see is a inarticulate thug. Tut tut, Voicy.

Personally, I'd love to see more female characters like her. As a female gamer, I am so over the vapid, wobbly-titted, entirely useless female characters we've mostly been given to play with up until now. At least Hannah had personality.

Es tut mir sehr leid, du hast recht.

I'm told I over-analyze most things - but trying to seem outspoken on a gaming forum might brush past some. At least I didn't resort to leet speak. Anyway, in my environment, the term "ghei" is widely used.

Most people should also not be under-estimated. Personally, I'm a simpleton, but there are some real intellectuals among us...ones you would NEVER expect it from. I mention no names. We all come here to escape and unwind from reality. Just like me you've been on IRC for ages, I'm sure you've met your fair share of online folk to understand the above-stated point. :)

Lucy Lawless was rather 'large' when she played as Xena. I didn't find her attractive AT ALL. But she had skill. The leather skin-tight suits etc. don't do it for me personally - so I'm with you on the boring stereotype one.

I'm referring to feminine women - not feminists. Ladies are fair or independent ... giggly plastic chicks are car guards.

Anyway - we're terribly off topic now. You can reply to this if you fancy, but I suggest we leave it at that afterward.

Alles wie immer, Liebchen.

I think you misunderstand what I meant. I'm not denigrating the average person's use of words - as I pointed out, most people have no idea that "sinister" means "left", and why would they? I know because I have a particular interest in etymology, but it's a rather unusual interest. :) It does, however, mean that I scrutinise my own use of words, as I'm very much aware of (often esoteric) etymological nuances. I don't expect everyone else to be the same, it's just kinda how it is.

And I think your definition of "feminine" (and probably "feminism" too) is skew. ;P

Shaun White Snowboarding is extremely dull and uninspired. I was very disappointed with it.
