Eve Online goes free to play after 13 years

Hi Shrike, going alright I suppose. I have only got the military and advanced military tutorials to complete but I find that the little time I do have to play during the week is not enough to really get stuck in read everything they have to say and what to do.. go look on youtube how to use scan probes.. try and get the hang of searching for signatures... and then oh look its 1am... got to get up in 4 hours for work...

Edit: And then to top it off my friend that suggested we try and learn together has already lost interest and ends up pulling me away to play CS:Go...

Installed yesterday, played this morning for about two hours. I can see it has a steep learning curve for someone that doesn't have enough time, like me. Overall, an awesome game. Would've killed it back in my 20's, before the kids were in the picture.

As I said, if you want to chat in game, look up R'onin and I will be happy to help out, explain. Yes, the learning curve is extreme but since the game is essentially free within certain limits, you can happily take your time and learn slowly. In fact, learning slowly is actually efficient in eve since your character progression is actually time based. What your character can do increases over time with the way the skill system works.

It also helps if you pick one direction and learn everything about how that works first.

I also find it helps if someone explains things as they occur to you.

Being a family man myself, I fully understand. On the other hand, the skill system in eve promotes a slow learning pace. So it actually pays off if you play slowly as you can actually do more, initially.

When I started I had just become a daddy for the second time and couldn't play much at all and it actually worked out. I would play a bit, set my skills, log in a day later and now I could fly something new, tried it out, etc.

If you play Eve as a long term project then it becomes very fulfilling since you grow over time and more of the game opens up to you. So much so that when I play a new game now I actually get irritated after a few days when I hit the new shiny edge of the game. I end up having explored all the mechanics of a new game in a week (at my play speed) and am left wondering why I bought it.

After 8 years of Eve, I still feel that there is more to learn, which is why I have never fully stopped playing it yet.
