Hey there
A friend of mine borrowed me his external HDD it was working fine until today i got back from school and plugged it in and it asked me to scan and repair i did that and now the drive shows under disk management and in devices and printers in disk management it shows that it is a new volume NTFS healthy partition but does not open or show under my computer.

Please help urgent.

If you can see it in disk management, right click on it and change the drive letter allocation. Change it to something like T:

When it asks you if you are sure, say yes. Then it should do the normal autorun sequence and you should be able to see it in My Computer.

Is one of your classes English?

LOL. Have you tried checking connections, checking partitions (If you have any), trying to repair etc?

I once had a External HDD that always said repair. It worked for a little while then everytime I plugged it in it slowed down the computer until it crashed. It was faulty...:D

It's working for now. I re-formatted to exFAT it detected and opened auto run. Then I just re-formatted to NTFS and now it works fine will see for how long. I returned it don't want that evil hard drive near me its the first time that ever happened. Thanks for the help much appreciated.

Did you loose any data? I was wondering whether linux would have saved it XD

It was already empty. I already had copied all the data to my pc. Whenever I borrow anyones flash drive or HDD copy all data to my pc to be safe for when things like this happen. You got me intrigued I while back I was trying to install Linux (ubuntu 13.04) on my pc but I kept on getting a error gave up I got in Junes PC format. Is it any good.

Good thing that you back up your data regularly...

Ubuntu is good (If that is what you mean), but it is good for certain things - not really for gaming. If you are using windows and like windows applications, and you are not going to utilise the features of linux then you probably won't want to switch over to Ubuntu (or any linux distro for that matter).

I learnt the hard way. Last year I lost over 350 GBs of games, movies and software. So now I back up every thing every month.

Lucky you only lost 350GB ;) A while back I lost over 1TB because of windows corrupting my partitions...or maybe it was me?

#blameitonwindows

No, really windows does some stupid shit to storage devices...
I had a 4gb flash full of stuff plugged it in, unplugged and then 2 days later it was completely broken... STFU windows!

How so?
I may use windows, but that does not mean that i would not use mac...
Simple and easy to use OS, why should i not use it?

Lack of powerful applications, lack of game support, compatibility in general, OS (Usually) locked to Apple computers hardware...and Apple :)

Powerful applications?
Game support is slowly arriving or you can use play on mac.
Compatibilty issues can be solved by changing the format of you file (duh).
You can download hackintosh if you want... :D
And what about apple?

Let me guess larger than 2TB?

My 3tb which I bought 5 months ago crashed last month. Cut everything (translation: ALLES!) to it a few weeks before it crashed. I have seen the light and have been released from my hoarder ways :D

Now I just stream what I want to watch. Haven't downloaded anything again...except stupid window updates :p
