external vs internal HHD

Only more expensive because the come with a enclosure.
They are exactly the same as internal drives.

Internal hard drives are cheaper than External drives because of the above reason.

Nothing to do with drive speed ect.

They are not cheaper. In cases were they are, its likely that its a 5400rpm drive vs a 7200rpm drive. Or its a different class of drive. e.g. WD Black vs WD Green.

Computer Stores and dealers will always try to make a profit on every item they sell.

Incredible Connection will sell an item at cost, just to get people into the store. And an external is more popular to Average Joe than an internal.

Yeah, what he said here was that External drives are cheaper... I have seen this too!

Last year when the drive prices went tits up, a colleague of mine bought a 1TB external and removed the drive from the casing, and used it internally (in his pc, not his body fool!). It was around R1000 where the internals were going for R1700 then...

I just bought a harddrive bundle from Makro last Thursday.

It's a 2TB external USB3.0 Seagate HDD which comes with a 16GB Kingston flash drive and a year license to AVG Internet Security 2013.
And it goes for R999.

Incredible Connection had an online special where they sold 1.5TB HDDs for R500. Needless to say that they sold out pretty fast.
They also had a special on 1TB Western Digital portable HDDs 2.5" for R690.

So the past 2 months, there have been pretty good deals on externals, which turn out to be cheaper than internal ones surprisingly.
