I still havent done much with the previous one, Im taking a break from the racing sims - just not enough time for all the games.

I was very reluctant to get into the F1 series. I honestly did not think I would enjoy them.

Then I started watching YouTube videos done by Aarava. all very good videos showcasing F1 games to their fullest. I got weirdly hooked on his videos, and I bought F1 2016 because of him. I bought the game in the last Xbox One sale, so got it for cheap as well.

And I absolutely adore the game. The driving mechanics are amazing. There is a great sense of speed from playing the game, and it give you so many difficulty options to really make the game fit your playing capability.

F1 2016 has a great career mode, which is again present in F1 2017. The latest installment also has that very complex upgrade tree. It's really nice, but some players of the game, including Aarava, has has some compliants. Apparently the AI does not do a too fantastic job at upgrading their own car, so the pack rarely jumbles up too much in terms of performance. What this means is that, despite going flat out development, there will always exist this casm of performance between the top tier Mercs and Ferarris, the middel tier Renaults and Force India Williams, and then the bottom tier McLarens and Saubers. Which is kinda disapointing to see. What I've been able to do in F1 2016 is get a lowly Williams upgraded to well past the performance of the Red Bulls, or even the Ferarris. But it doesn't seem to be possible in F1 2017. Seems the balancing needs a bit of work.

But you'll enjoy the game fully. If you are a avid F1 fan, you are going to absolutely love the retro racing done in F1 2017. Codemasters just knows how to create an incredible racing game.

I last played f1 2011. I loved it.
My wife and I are big f1 fans so I think the career mode will be awesome.
I'm not so keen on the whole fuel And tyre management.
Looking forward to getting promoted from torro rosso to my team red bull.

My game arrived today. Will collect tomorrow and get my console on friday!

Would love a racing seat but cash says no!

Yoh, where to begin!

I got it all setup on Friday night and did a couple practice laps, probably racked up a couple million in damages. Mainly front wings and wheels which had popped off.
I spent a good hour getting used to the braking and cornering as I am used to racing games where the cars slide around corners.
I then went into a fun race and was disqualified for hitting too many players so I worked on that (and being nice in general).

Saturday I managed an hour or so and that night I started a career with Torro Rosso (I am a Red Bull Racing fan) in the hopes Christian Horner notices me.
They don't play with the practice sessions. 3x30mins. It actually did a world of good. I didn't complete all the challenges as I am still pretty twitchy on the controls.
Qualifying went well, managed a 7th and had to pit in the last 60secs as fuel was low.

Race Day (1)
15 laps
Good start and managed 5th after the first corner.
Daniel Riccardo sat on me from lap 1 to lap 5 and pushed me. He is one of my favorite drivers, but not then.
Pitted end of lap 5 and came out of the pits in 18th and a bit disheartened (1 pit strategy).
Ended up in P4 after everybody had pitted and held it until lap 13 where magnussen took me out (how real is this game!!).
Ended up in P12 and as it was 00:30 in the morning, I rage quit.

Race Day (2)
Similar as above, but I ran out of fuel on the last lap.
Don't I have engineers with degrees like thermometers to make sure s**t like this doesn't happen?
Rage Quit

After a couple hours game play, two rage quits, a rearranged lounge (bean bag to get into F1 racing position and my daughters Frozen themed kiddies ottoman to simulate where their feet sit), pi**ed off wife (see rearranged lounge) and I haven't managed to compete a Grand Prix yet.

What do I think?
This is the best game I have played in a long while.
My heart rate sits through the roof, I feel tense the whole game, my head automatically moves in every corner, I get frustrated and irritable when a slower driver is in front of me and I get angry at the engineer when he talks to me and I am concentrating.
The word simulator/simulation gets thrown around very loosely these days, and this is one of two games I would call a simulator.

Now to make more money to buy a racing seat, wheel and pedals.

By the way, the graphics are awesome, sound is cool and all that other crap is good, the game play is just too good to pay attention to it.

What would I change?

Engineers should help make decisions on upgrading, once again, degrees like a thermometer and they expect a racing driver who probably didn't finish school or paid very little attention in school due to being professional to make complex decisions like that.

Larger text for lap times - Positions and time gaps get relayed by my new friend Jeff on every straight.

(BTW I am a big F1 fan, it was my dream job as a kid until Sasha Martinengo told me I was a bit big to be one - I've lost 15kg's if you ever read this Sasha)
