F2P: Free To Play
Ever wanted to give an MMORPG a go but thought it a really involved, expensive process? Not so ..... a lot of the popular ones are either already F2P or going F2P. Aion, LOTRO, Star Trek Online, etc, etc, there are a good few to choose from whether your taste ranges from classic RPG to more eastern based RPG to sci-fi.
It's a model that lets a player experience anything from half the game to 95% of the game before having, needing or wanting to pay. If, like me you get hooked on a particular one, you can use ingame currency (which can be earned via grinding or real world money) to buy anything from quest packs, races, classes or nifty gear to set you apart from the next guy
Let me share how easy it is to get set up with my favorite, DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online) -
1) Head on over to https://signup.ddo.com/ddo.php. Simply create an account and download the entire game for free. You will not need to enter in a credit card. It's about 7gb total for the High Quality client.
2) Choose a server - There are 8 servers with the default/starter one being Orien. I started there and am still there because it's the most PUG (Pick Up Group) friendly server. It's also the one with the most Europeans on so our time zones are similar. I have also met other South Africans on Orien
3) That's it! Customize and play a unique hero from 13 classes, 8 races, and thousands of combinations of skills and feats! Play for free for 100s of hours as you delve into the most treacherous dungeons imagined! Start a guild or join an established one that already has a guild ship (makes travel easier, lol).
So stop thinking about it and get in on the scene ...... thousands upon thousands of people are already playing for free, why not you?
(P.S - if you end up with DDO and start on Orien, hit me up on one of my alts: Intha (Air Savant) - Rituals (Monk) - Skyquake (Favored Soul) - Nephlym (Favored Soul) - Synderr (Pale Master)
