Facebook acquires Oculus VR for R21.4 billion

When i read this the first thing going through my mind is the amount of adds that will pop up while playing games, and a what's app message popping up when your in a boss fight :p

Maybe this is a good thing as it could get VR into the mainstream. There are other (gaming-tech oriented) companies out there that are developing VR tech too, namely Sony and Micro$oft.

Although, this sale does highlight one of the inherent flaws with Kickstarter: none of the backers will see a cent of the $2 billion. The risk was taken by thousands of backers and only the the company will reap the benefits. I think that sucks a little bit.

I like facebooks idea of using the oculus for virtual meetings though. They just need to take it to its logical conclusion and let you shoot someone who is talking crap, all in VR of course.

It definitely has potential in Facebook's hands, but I guess it remains to be seen what they end up using it for. Farmville VR - Coming Soon

Great, now I get to see posting drunk pics and duck faces on facebook in VR.

Hey y'al join me in the VR chat and watch me eat this burger

The potential to instantly "like" and "share" a particular part of immersive gameplay could be fb's motivation for it :p

I see that Markus Persson tweeted that he had a version of Minecraft planned for the Oculus Rift, but after the news he immediately pulled the plug on the idea...
