Fallout 4

Im about 13 hours in now. Decided to progress with the story a bit. The story is good. I love the new enemies. It was great to see something i have not seen before in a fallout game

Yay, my download completed, gonna play this on PC . It was surprisingly fast to download this from Steam (24GB in one night).

Loving many of the new enemies too. Especially the changes to ghouls are good.

The only enemy I really don't like is the new Super Mutant Suiciders. They just don't fit with Fallout lore. Previous games have established that Super Mutants are not as stupid as they seem and in some cases are even highly intelligent. Most of their fights with humans are because of turf wars and I've never heard of intelligent enemies blowing themselves up in order to win a turf war. It just doesn't make sense. If these were ghouls suiciding to blow up humans I would understand, but not mutants.

What platform did you end up going with?"

Picked up a PS4 copy as they had no XB1 copies, no stress though. Got console for the reason that'll I'll be spending many hours in the world, thus as much on the couch :p

Also borrowed a copy on PC to see performance and fidelity there.

And the performance issues on the PS4 version? There was an article on myGaming a few week back wrt the PS4 version on performance.

Only played about 4-6 hours, seems solid. I wouldn't go as far to say that it's locked at 30fps but I have noticed a slight drop of what I would guess to be around the 26fps mark. Still in my opinion this is almost to be expected given the scale of the game world, and it's really nothing game breaking. I've definitely had worse in other games, but it's marginal if anything and hardly noticeable.

So far one of my biggest complaints thus far, and I don't think this is console specific, is that the FOV could be made a bit wider.

Ah thanks man. I'm considering getting this.

FOV? field of view?

Yeah, Field of View.

It just feels a bit tight, especially in third person which is how I prefer to play. Also your look speed is fine, then aiming speed is slower. Just takes a bit of tweaking or getting used to.

I wish the underground Metro tunnels were connected like they were in FO3. Shooting ghouls in the metro stations brings back a lot of awesome memories from traversing the vast subterranean tunnel network in FO3.

If I can map out all the metro stations I might just create a mod to connect them all. It shouldn't be especially difficult and most of my trouble will actually come from figuring out how long to make the new tunnels, etc.

.... aww, they're not, that sucks. Will be ages before I get and play this so uhm, get on that mod then :p:D

Why are you not at work
...... lol

I played a few hours using a err "grey" copy, "whistling: ... how is this on anybodies GotY list? It's so glitchy, holy shit. In a year where we've been spoilt with AAA releases such as Bloodborne, MGSV and The Witcher 3, Fallout 4 doesn't even come close to those.

Arkham Knight got hammered on PC for being rubbish, yet Bethesda is getting a free pass. Granted F04 isn't as bad as Arkham Knight, but it still has a bunch of issues. The framerate tanks in Diamond City, and from the looks of it it's because the engine can't handle that many NPC's. Why haven't they used a completely new engine with this? This frankenstein's monster of Gamebryo isn't doing them any favours. Looking at Bethesda's lineup, almost every game that's coming out from them in the near future is using something different, whether it be IDTech, Unreal, Unity or the Void Engine. Why not pull an EA, and put a significant investment into one engine with lots of scalability that can be used by all your teams? It makes sense.

If they were any other company, and this was a different series, reviews would be a lot different. Looking on metacritic, there is a massive difference between critic and user scores. Some parts of the game are actually fun, like the base building aspect, but then others are so unpolished and buggy. That dialogue system, those facial and just overall animation quality ... wow, what year is it? How was this even made by the same team? Did it get outsourced? :p

I'm not a fan that they've ripped out a lot of the RPG elements either. Not being able to decline quests makes me feel as if I'm playing a character Bethesda made, instead of one that I did. Stop giving me busywork, I don't want to do everything. In general it makes actual role playing impossible. Plus if you're an evil bastard like me, the ability to be a massive prick seems to be dumbed done a lot too. Compared to the little I've played of New Vegas, FO4 is seriously lacking in the RPG department.

Go long dogmeat, go long!

I'll still enjoy this, and will buy it when the complete edition is around R200, but Bethesda really missed an opportunity here. I hope the next Elder Scrolls game is much better. As per usual, Super Bunnyhop says it better than I can.

You can still turn down quests, I do it all the time. So far I find this better than F3, but not as good as NV. Still a great game though.

After about 20 hours I decided to roll another character and try out a different build. I made a STR based character and I must say, melee is a lot of fun in this game. Will play for a while with this new character before deciding which one to continue the story with.

How Bethesda keeps getting away with this shit, only they know. Some of the bugs have been in their games since Morrowind, like characters getting stuck on geometry.

I'm enjoying the game, but it is ridiculously flawed in a way that is not acceptable for a 2015 game. All these 9.5/10 reviews are really suspect. Even Jim Sterling, who often makes videos ridiculing Early Access games for being broken, gave the game a 9.5. I don't think the gaming press realises how much damage they do to the industry when they trivialize such issues. When Bethesda just sees a flurry of 'GOTY' cries and excellent reviews, what incentive do they have to fix all these glaring problems?

While I do agree that there are many bug in the game, it's a rather strange situation. Yes, the game has bugs in it. Yes, there are some performance issues on the Xbox One. But none of that matters at all for me. In the end of the day I'm having so much fun with the game, and I'm getting so lost in the world of Falllout 4, that those bugs and issues just doesn't matter at all. I'm having more fun in this game that I've had in a very long time in a game.

This may sound like pure fanboy speak, but I've never played New Vegas, and I probably played like 20 minutes of Fallout 3. I don't know the legacy of the game franchise or it's nuances, and I'm experiencing the Fallout world pretty much for the first time. And it's magical!!!

The freedom and customization the game gives me to play however I want, to go wherever I want, to do whatever I want, it's just pure bliss. The little details of the wasteland makes it feel like a place that people has been living in, trying to survive. It's a world full of things to discover and full of stories to tell. Not the stories set out by the campaign or any of the side mission. No, it's the story to tell yourself. It's a story you create for yourself. THIS is probably the biggest reason why I am in love with this game so much.

Not all games can create a sense of wonder and enjoyment like that, and THAT is why I personally feel Fallout fully deserves it's 90% rating. It's most definitely my own personal GOTY so far

And that's all fair and well, but critics should not be saying that the issues are inconsequential, because they're not. I'm not sure how far you've delved into the settlement building, but it is clunky and feels unfinished. It feels like a feature that never made it past beta testing. And this is one of the features that was the most heavily marketed.

No problem if you can overlook the technical issues, but it doesn't mean they're acceptable. It's one thing that these bugs were in Skyrim. It's another entirely that so many of them are still present in their new game, 4 years later. Bethesda should be held to a higher standard in 2015.

It would not be a Bethesda game with out a few bugs and shite performance.I learnt my lesson with skyrim ps3 now that game was really bad.I will pick up Fallout4 once the majority of issues are ironed out.I still put in almost 200 hours on my copy of Skyrim
