Fallout 4

Bad news folks, seems it's a buggy piece of shit. Reddit and the forums are filled with complaints about the game crashing every few minutes and it appears that if you're unlucky enough to be running an AMD GPU, you can't play at all. It just crashes at the intro for me.

Yai!

Hooray for sticking to not pre-ordering! Me being the lucky owner of an AMD GPU.

Well, considering the PS4 has framerate issues that makes it dip into the single digits, not really.

At least now we know the reason for the review embargo.

Digital foundry has done an analysis of the game.It makes for interesting reading.

Rolled back to last stable AMD driver and now it's working. I also set the system time ahead one day, but I think it's the beta driver that was giving problems.

Honestly, as much as I love AMD cards and hate Nvidia, this is my last AMD card. Just so fucking sick of launch-day issues with their cards.

Almost switched to PS4 at the last minute since I don't want to download 20+ GB, but decided to stick with PC since I have all the other games in the franchise on PC. Just hope my 550Ti will do the trick.

2 hours in on the PS4. Only had 2 very brief stutters, and it wasn't that bad.
BeoTeK - VATS works as expected, and there seems to be some aim assist otherwise. I'm all over the place with analog sticks, and I've managed to kill quite a few low levels already. Turning is very slow by default, gonna have to try tweaking the sensitivity. Overall, its decent. If only PC/PS4 had a cross-save feature I'd probably get it on both platforms... but ya, that'd never happen.

Smart move Bethesda and consoles don't mix lol.Fallout4 is there best attempt though.

Yeah I had both Fallout 3 and NV on PS3 and the vanilla versions were already pretty bad in the performance department but both GOTY's ran like utter shit on PS3. I actually traded NV GOTY in the day after I bought it and got the GOTY on PC instead. Both games also completely froze my console several times.

I'm already playing thanks to it being out in Aus. So far I'm sort of impressed. The gameplay is definitely much better than in FO3 and NV. Let's face it, the combat in those games was finicky at best and I can't imagine trying to play them without using VATS. FO4 feels more like a traditional FPS and can easily be played as one, while retaining the VATS system. The new conversation system is pretty annoying and most of the UI is not at all PC-friendly. Even more so than Skyrim. Controls are also all over the place. Alt to power attack instead of holding in LMB, arrow keys for conversation instead of letting you use WASD, unresponsive controls, etc.

We'll see how the RPG elements pan out, seeing as that's what will ultimately make or break the game for me. Not a fan of the removal of skills, though.

Also, it's about as buggy as you can expect a Bethesda game to be. Poorly optimized and prone to frequent CTDs. Luckily I'm not getting any crashes but it seems I'm in the minority on that. I do get sub-optimal frames regardless of settings, though. It feels like a framerate lock, but apparently there isn't one on this game.

Seems like it might just be a good game :p

Nerdist gives it "5 RADical Burritos out 5."

PROS
• An open-world masterpiece. Hundreds of hours of great content packed into a large and beautifully designed sandbox.
• Aiming and movement mechanics feel as top tier as, if not better than, the front-runner AAA shooter titles of today.
• Narratives are compelling, robust, and delivered in the most concise fashion as to not interfere with gameplay.
• Crafting system adds creational elements to Fallout, and makes looting a far more meaningful undertaking.
• The most polished and well-rounded Bethesda game to date.

CONS
• I’ve got nothing

What is odd is that there are just as many locations as in the other games, but the map is much smaller. This makes it feel pretty cramped. You'll often have something like 5 locations in a 500 meter radius. Much worse in the cities, where there can be 5 in a 100 meter radius.

Maybe console limitation? I dunno. Would have been nicer if things were a little more spread out. On the plus side, most locations are much better quality.

or maybe it's an attempt to prevent a skyrim situation where travelling becomes exhausting

Could very well be. Also remember that it is a persistant world. Any you change or drop will stay that way and no despawn like a lot of games do so it stands to reason this could be very taxing on memory, could also account for a lot of the microstutter.

Thanks Reavs, will use that for FOV hate how close it is.
one missing from that article is (stolen from neo):

Remove Mouse Acceleration
Mouse acceleration appears to be on by default in Fallout 4. To remove it we simply do more or less the same thing one did for skyrim. Open Fallout4.ini (C:Users[name]DocumentsMy GamesFallout4).
Scroll down to [Controls], and under this add the below line:
bMouseAcceleration=0
Note: this will not remove it from menus or similar, but it removes it from 'within' the game.

Started yesterday (VPN) seems great so far. Everything at ultra (godrays high as it takes of 20-30fps) and running at 60fps.
Swapped to a female character after 3 hours of play because I prefer her voice. Gun play is so much meatier than before, not really liking the dialogue wheel, but can live with it.
