Fallout 4

New patch out but apparently it breaks mods?

The good news is that the Fallout 4 1.2 patch is now in full release on Steam. The bad news, according to this Nexus Mods forum thread, is that intentionally or not, it breaks support for mods.

The patch makes the following changes:

New Features
  • Number pad keys can now be used for remapping (PC)
  • Remapping Activate now works on Quick Container (PC)

Fixes
  • General memory and stability improvements
  • Performance improvements inside the Corvega Assembly Plant
  • Optimizations to skinned decal rendering
  • Fixed issue with player becoming stuck in terminals
  • Fixed issue where equipped weapons become locked after completing Reunions
  • Fixed issue with "When Freedom Calls" where the quest would not complete
  • During "Confidence Man" fixed issue where player's health would continuously regenerate
  • Fixed crash related to jumping into water and reloading saved games
  • Fixed issue where Launcher would not save God Rays Quality setting properly (PC)

But the patch also adds a new launcher that disables mods on startup, and the .INI edit that previously got around this limitation no longer works. There is a fix, but it's not the most streamlined process ever: You'll need to launch the Nexus Mod Manager, then launch Fallout 4, then switch back to the NMM and re-enable mods, then go back to Fallout 4 and do your thing.

A patch-compatible version of the Fallout 4 Script Extender has also been released, but it too will require a certain amount of dicking around to get things done, and also relies on the Nexus Mod Manager to operate. Even with support re-enabled, it sounds like some mods aren't working properly, although it's still a bit hazy at this point since the patch is so new. I've reached out to Bethesda to find out what's going on, and I'll let you know when I hear back.

I was watching Cheers again, (yes, I like old shows, I am weird like that.) and suddenly wondered, wonder of they have the Cheers bar somewhere in the Fallout 4 wasteland, seeing both are set in Boston...

EDIT! Freaking awesome! You can find Cheers in fallout 4!!!

Getting this soon, what mods would you REALLY advise I get to make the gameplay better/smoother/better looking etc?

Are the loading screens still as hectic as at release? Anything I can do to make that better?

I recommend these:

True Storms - Wasteland Edition (Thunder-Rain-Weather Redone)
Improved Map with Visible Roads
Full Dialogue Interface

as a bare minimum.

Others I'm using at the moment include armorsmith extended (allows you to use armor pieces over "clothes" which stupidly replace the limb armor), CBBE (hurr hurr), Fallout 4 config tool and some other minor ones i cant recall. I don't really enjoy ones that add guns/companions and things like that. I just like changing visuals mostly :)

EDIT: I also use a Reshade ShadeFX thing, but I cant seem to find it or whats its called. Will look once home :)
EDIT2: FOUND IT! Enhanced Wasteland Preset

I am trying to get back into Fallout 4 this week...but that dialogue system feels like roulette to me...I hate it. My normal policy is to complete a game without a mod the first time I play it, but this time I'll ignoring my policy. Will also try the other mods.

Thank you mottamort

I dont know, I just cant get into this Fallout like I did with 3 and NV...

I'm finally playing Fallout 4 and I'm surprised, it's a lot more fun than Fallout 3. It's a shame that the roleplaying aspect has been watered down so much because it was a real highlight of New Vegas. But it feels a lot more fun and the exploring is so addictive! It's one of those games where you can sit down to play and completely lose track of time.

I can still overlook the watered down RPG aspect but I really find the base building boring and not something i want to do in a fallout game. The weapon customization is great though.

I'm loving it so far. It easily rates as one of the top 10 games I've ever played. It's so good that I'm seriously considering buying the season pass. Something that I never do.

*edit*

After seeing that it costs R900 I will wait until a day that the price is reasonable. It's freaken crazy!

If you're on PC you can pick the season pass up for around R250 - R350. Check BT Games, AWX or Raru. Got mine for R300 from BT about a week ago.

Thanks. I'm playing on the XBox One though which means I'll have to wait for a special. I did get the game by trading it for another so at least that worked in my favour. But yes, R900 for the season pass is crazy.

It doesn't look like a lot of people are still playing Fallout 4 so I will most likely be posting on my own in this thread but over the next couple of weeks I'll be posting pics of my journey.

It's not a Bethesda game without some funny bugs. Even on a console!

I see some people don't like the settlements. I like it a lot. Even starting to add some shops now.

I still need to get into the meat of the game. Unfortunately, Fallout 4 is making my 6 year old PC really show its age :(
I'll have to play it properly when I scrape the cash together to buy a new PC, and then I'll be able to compare notes with you! :D

I haven't played Fallout 4, but from what I've seen it isn't "Fallout". The RPG aspect is just lacking, especially the dialogue. The dialogue is one of the parts that made Fallout and Fallout 2 great, apart from the fantastic gameplay.

Fallout 4 just throws it all away and makes it more of a FPS than a RPG. Fallout 3 was oky for me, but I would still play Fallout 2 instead any day of the week. I'll probably never play F4.

Oh noes! I hope you get to play it properly at some stage. I've played some good games over the last few years but Fallout 4 feels superior. There's just so much to do and I can see myself playing it for a long time still.

Funny thing is that I didn't used to like Bethesda games in the past. The first one that I enjoyed was Skyrim. I didn't like Fallout 3 but enjoyed Fallout New Vegas that wasn't made by them. Fallout 4 for some reason just really grabs me.

I thought the same before I started playing it. Fallout 2 is one of the best games I've ever played. I still have the box here and I treasure it greatly. I didn't enjoy Fallout 3 though. Fallout 4 does lack in the dialogue choice category but the stories it tells still make for an amazing RPG experience.

To give you an idea. Spoiler for a side quest if people don't want to read it:
Spoiler: show
I was asked to collect some green paint for a wall (long story) and it could only be found at this one hardware store. As I went to the store a lady called for help. That someone was kidnapped and ...

Actually. I don't want to spoil the whole thing. Take my word for it Blazzok, the stories and roleplaying experiences are much much better than I anticipated. It's much better than anything that Fallout 3 had to offer. It's well written, well acted and feels like a real fantasy world. I love it.

Dammit Soli, why would you do this to me? I don't have the time for more games :(
I won't pay full price for it. I'll wait for a proper Steam sale or something perhaps then.

I'll keep it on my wishlist and play it on a rainy day, or when I retire. Sunday evening already. I think I'm going to go cry in the corner.

Haha I know the feeling. I didn't want it actually but someone offered to trade it for GTA V on XBox One and now I'm glad to have done the trade. If you want we can trade it in the future except if you want to play on pc rather. :)

Yeah I would. My aiming/shooting skills on the Xbox are still horrible. I struggle to hit moving targets in Rise of the Tomb Raider - probably why I haven't played more of it. It is a very beautiful game though.
