Fallout games free on GOG

I managed eventually. Controlling Fallout 1 is very finicky.

Yep its turn based. I know there was some mod's to play em in the newer engines but its still work in progress. Also the older ones are not open world games.

That said, I still think 2 was one of the best in the series.

Say what? They were open world games in that they allowed you to go anywhere you want, whenever you want. You have to travel using a map, but the world is still your oyster.

I generally kind agree with Fallout 2 being better, but I still like Fallout 1 more. Fallout 2 improved the gameplay, but I enjoyed the story and locations in 1 a lot more. It was wacky, but not as over-the-top, bat-shit insane as Fallout 2.

Woo,fallout tactics.

A tip if you are starting fallout2,put a few points into agility and let the ants and scorpions walk up to but so they don't have enough action points to attack (they will hug you and end their turn). You can just hit them with the spear and then walk back a few paces, they will repeat the process and won't be able to attack unless they have enough AP to attack or if they die.

Remember to use the action tree (red button on the right) to use skills like traps and lockpicking on certain things.

I also completed Fallout Tactics twice in the past so if any patched didn't change gameplay then some tactics might still be valid.

Haha, that beginner temple in Fallout 2 was quite a bitch, but once you get the hang of it you can breeze through it.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, the last time I played FO2 I used the following build. It's a sniper build and was pretty decent.

Traits: Gifted, Finesse (gifted for the extra stat points, Finesse for the increased criticals)

ST 5, PE 9, EN 4, CH 1, IN 10, AG 10, LK 9.

That's if I remember the build correctly. I might be mistaken. Either way, it shouldn't be far off from the above. The three things that are critical in this build is strength (has to be 5 in order to use snipers), perception (make it pretty high) and agility. I usually prioritize Intelligence as well for solving quests, seeing as you leave charisma low which means you can't talk your way through quests. I was able to do most of the content with a high Int, so it should be good for you.

Just note, the early game is a bit difficult with this build, but the payoff is massive from mid to late game. You start doing insane damage around level 12-15. The build works in Fallout 1 as well.
