fallout new vegas and windows 7 64x

Necuno

The Piper
fallout new vegas and windows 7 64x

for the life of me i can't get mine to work. it either directly crash after i try one of the two exe's or from steam to launch or just after the initial 3 screens or on the very page you can choose i guess to start the game.

when i get the the start game screen, the sound is totally screeching and fubar.

any ideas ?

every thing is up too date
ive tried quite few things
.dll's
.compatibility mode
.ini thread / core settings
.display drivers
.dx reinstall
.windows mode
.full screen mode
.anti virus on and of
.run from steam
.run from directory
.exception to ffdshow
.uninstall 100% codecs
.offer 1x cat to dark lord
.gues next inline is reinstall.

going to play it in the mean time from my xp partition....

I'm also playing on Windows 7 x64 and so are about 5 of my friends and most of my colleagues. Sound drivers maybe, a lot of the time people still have the "stock" sound drivers installed.

i've noticed the following behaviour.

if the music managed to play after the launcher is started the launched will be fine.

then the game starts, one screen 1 or 2 the music tries again to start it would play for a sec and be gone. then it would crash instantly after that.

otherwise it would go to the starting screen and exactly the same, the moment the music starts it crashes.

however i've got the latest drivers for my audigy 4 [got latest off creative's site] and intel HD audio [love to know where i'm suppose to get the sound driver update for my intel hd audio or my mb dp35dp].... guess up too this point i might as well try reinstalling the os as i've really messed around with it :D

Dude are you running onboard audio with a dedicated sound card? You flippen tjop!! Noob-cake anyone? lol :D

so this is the only game that can't handle two sound cards even if one is default and other is secondary ? lol ?

how is running two soundcards noob ? evidently you never played around with different means of ripping and recording for example. retard reply much ?

AH - Disable your onboard sound in your BIOS - you have an audio provisioning conflict
i've tried that scenario with onboard on, creative disabled and creative on with onboard disabled. quite sure i've might have broken something in the os which by chance fallout new vegas has an issue with. i'm going to reinstall and then try vegas just after sound, vga and dx is installed to see if it was software related. besides that would make for more proper debugging *if* it was one or both of the sound cards.

It's well deserved....seeing as we all should change our nicks to something with a 'funny' character in it ;)
not my problem i can't be given a name on myBB that had just 1 spam post in it and has been inactive for months. to keep continuity i had to go with a html special character. besides going to be daft if its looks different on myb, myg, xlive and steam, don't you think ?

Ag dude, get the hell over yourself.

I'm surprised you haven't ran into issues before with your Soundcard-SLI trick. Fact of the matter is, if you have a dedicated soundcard installed like a VERY finicky Creative card, you generally turn off the onboard soundcard that came along with your motherboard. I don't care what you say, it's common practice. And to me you were being a noob running it the way you were. Period.

I have an anboard soundcard and a creative 5.1 sound card and i never disabled anything... not sure how its suppose to be common practice.

maybe you should do that first ?

had 2 sound card (and btw it's not sli, go research on more than one sound card) for years now without issues. as i've noted i might have broken something in the os as i do a lot of what you might fright and call uncommon...

because i suppose they don't know that you are able to do it ?

Oi, so new nick = new persona? Ok, just trying to be lighthearted....

that's the real reason, sorry if didn't had enough smilies in it to tighten it up :o

so os reinstalled and

1) updated till there is no more updates windows update
2) installed dx redist from vega's folder
3) installed vs redist from vega's folder

i didn't use any other updates, patches or drivers except which came through windows update.

4) both intel HD and creative running

game run without issue. which says that the OS was borked in some special way before this one and that "sli audio" (though you don't get such a thing at all) wasn't the issue.

sadly i'll never know what inside the OS caused the issued now as it was just that and nothing more *shurgs*

:edit
on a closing note, i think i've found the original issue as i was able to successfully re-create the symptoms of the old os and fallout.

after the clean install, i installed latest nvidia drivers from their site and few other things and updated which was not given via windows update. then i went to my nvidia console and started to revert all my settings as it was before the reload.

found the problem with Multi-display/mixed-gpu acceleration. when not on single display performance mode it goes crashing as it was, if i set it to single it's fine.
