Fallout: New Vegas official discussion thread

Im at lvl 3, just left Prim. Hardcore is fun and not really that hard to balance. Died for the first time just outside of Primm.
Even after patch Visual Hickups aplenty.

I've got the strength one so far. Busy saving up for more (after the anti-material rifle :P )

yeah that rifle is lovely.

Man just wish the shot guns where not so underpowered close range.

Guns 98 shotgun close range 4shots takes 2 bars of hp down
Melee 19 powerfist kills enemy 2 shots.

Do you have the shotgun surgeon perk?

I was afraid it would not work so I left it and rather went with rifles. Plus that's only in v.a.t.s that does the extra damage and less spread.

I don't think it's only in V.A.T.S. dude, could be wrong though. I checked the Fallout wiki and it doesn't mention anything about it only being in V.A.T.S.

It does, however, mention that in conjunction with the cowboy perk this can make the lever-action shotgun very powerful.

Incidentally, which shotgun are you using? I'm using the 12 gauge hunting shottie with a choke, and it's frankly a thing of beauty. If I could get it with a bigger mag, it would be the only close-range gun I'd bother with.

Using the riot shotgun ts 7-8k at the gunrunners or you can get it from legion/NCR.
Thing is wlad not using the lever action shotgun but completely forgot about that perk will go reset my stats and see if it works.

Yeah the 12 gauge slug is awesome but yeah not a lot of damage but will take the 2 perks see if it makes a difference.

Okay has anybody done the brotherhood of steel missions yet and then finished the game. There seems to be a bug where you can't complete the quest. And then they don't get mentioned in the end credits.

O nvm seems you have to do something different to get them to be mentioned. but the bug is still there that you can't complete a quest for them.

Any of you have the pulse gun yet !!! that thing is freaking awesome :D
ps the brush gun shoots faster than the material rifle and is soo freaking deadly.

You don't have to use the lever action shotgun, that perk (along with cowboy perk) just makes it very powerful (according to the wiki) - I don't use shotguns myself, prefer rifles.

Regarding the Brotherhood of Steel - I killed (and ate) them all during my first playthrough, not bothering with them yet in second playthrough.

What is the best way to kill Deathclaws? I'm supposed to do a mission for the Great Kahns in Sloan, but I get owned by the Deathclaws there - especially the Alpha Males and Mother Deathclaw. Do I need to be a certain level before attempting that mission? I'm level 16 ATM.

Level 23 and haven't gone into the Vegas Strip yet, side missions are awesome.

Anyway, have a 'steal' mission but cant find anywhere that sells Stealth Boys. Anyone know where I can get some?

AP ammo is the best way to kill deathclaws. Maybe also try a shotgun with beanbag rounds to slow them down, then just nail them.

I used the .308 sniper + AP ammo to take those things down. Still not easy, average deathclaw took three shots (one of which was a sneak critical). Alpha male took many shots...

I hit lvl six yesterday and stopped playing when I got to Novac.

As fun as the game play is the bugs or glitches really break immersion. Was heading to novac and had just passed a traveling merchant when 4 Legion dudes started shooting at them(the caravan) I joined in killing the legionares. Walked a little while further and there was about 5 NCR troops, one of which was half buried in the road. The rest looked like they all jumped ont he same transported pad in Star Trek and now accupied the same space. Yes it wasn't game breaking but it takes you of of the world.

Still enjoying Hardcore Mode on Hard. In F3 the Rad Scorpions where a push over, now I have to really plan my attack (and retreat). Fav gun is my cowboy repeater although I dont have alot of ammo for it, my vermite (spelling) rifle is second. Also enjoy the new sneaking mechanics. In F3 i could never go the rouge route. Now if i see some powder gangers I get a close as possible (without being seen) and head shot them.

The only other thing that bothers me is that the lines between good and bad is too black and white. Maybe it gets better later on.
Oh and I miss my gun nut perk. :(

I use the Ghaush(spelling) rifle there is a ledge on the righside from the great khan encampment(left side if you coming from the front) I sneak over there then semi hide behind the rocks and pop out to shoot them took me about 150 ammo from my rifle but killed them all. Did not have a sniper at that time or would have used that. But if you run into them shoot there legs.

Dam did not know it was that bad on the console I heard it was bad but not that bad, yeah don't worry as soon as you hit the strip things become a bit more blurred. But I think you will still see it as black and white.

Why do you think I'll still see it as black and white?

Because there is no pleasing you :p

And well the game is for the most part not that complicated and well if you want to you will see it as black and white since ncr and the legion are pretty much the good vs the evil, but then it also depends on who you talk to to make up your mind if they are evil or are they good. Then of course there is the wildcard namely you this is where I would say you would enjoy it since well its a bit different from the rest but also depends on how you play it I mean you can almost from the start make enemies to get what you want. or you can act all good and then at the last moment turn on all of them :D

Ive played too many games where the bad guyz are baby eating bad and the good guys are inpersonating mother teresa. I am looking for grey areas. Like the Kill the boy or let the mother kill herself choice in Dragon Age. A choice which isn't good or bad.
The legion are made out from the start to be baby eating evil, I mean head to that town between Primm and Novac and see what they did there, thats the definition of evil. Similarly the NCR are set up as the heroic defenders who try and restore democracy to the wasteland. Their soldiers fight for whats right even with their numbers spread paper thin. I just think the two factions could have been set up alot more abigious. Like Vualt City in Fallout 2. From outside they look to have everything and get to call the shots but once you peel away the whipcream coating is a vile cockroach nest.

I'll wait and see before making my final judgement.

Oh and If the player turns out to be Mr New Vegas I am putting the game in the microwave.
