The FTB team has launched their much anticipated mod pack for Minecraft entitled Feed The Beast.

The FTB team is well known for their Skyblock and Super Hostile maps by the same name. The reason this mod pack has made a big splash is mainly due to the efforts of Slowpoke and his team and other youtubers such as Direwolf20 and NearbyGamer who have been promoting this mod pack in their Let's Play series.

The mod pack is FULLY supported by the mod developers, unlike Tekkit. This also means that the mod pack will be updated more regularly than the Technicpack and different mod packs will be available through their launcher.

You can also add and remove mods to and from the pack to customize your experience.

The current list of mods in the Feed The Beast mod pack is as follows:

Buildcraft 3
Railcraft
Forestry
Steve's carts
Portal gun
Ender storage
Forestry
NEI
Extra BiomesXL
Tubestuff
Secret rooms
Greg's lighting
Industrialcraft
Computer Craft
Wireless redstone
Mystcraft
Rei's Minimap
Iron chests

RedPower 2 will be added later this week as Eloraam is adding some finishing touches to the mod. Thaumcraft 3 and Equivalent Exchange 3 will be added hopefully in the next week or two as well.

So head over to Feed The Beast and support this mod pack.

When you start the launcher in the Mods section / tab you will see a button called Filters, when pressing this you can switch between Client mods and Server mods.

Once you have switched to Server a button will appear on the right hand bottom side of the launcher where you can download the server.

I know servers have been setup by various people, check out their forums for more info.

The Launch of the Mod Pack on Saturday evening at 20:00 had almost 10,000 on Slowpoke's livestream on Twitch.

Their website crashed from the amount of people trying to download the pack at once and additional mirrors were put up to assist with the downloads. At one point they had 5,000 concurrent downloads pulling around 1.9 Gbps from their hosting company. Also because of the launch the amount of people flocking to play the game with the new mod pack caused the Minecraft login servers to crash.

It was insane, but once it went well and I got to play the pack most of the weekend. The mods are so well integrated and a lot of the recipes have changed.

For instance you can use Forestry Circuits in Industrial Craft 2 recipes instead of electronic circuits if you wish. A lot more items have been added to the game and once RedPower, ThaumCraft 3 (which looks stunning!) and Equivalent Exchange (Now balanced and a lot harder to get the Philosopher's Stone and most of the EE3 items.

I'm really looking forward to the new additions and learning all the new stuff xD

Well not really sure, EE2 on Tekkit is seriously OP, but that's because the mod was made to be OP.

The new EE3 has dropped Red Matter and you can just go and craft the Philosopher's Stone by adding a diamon, 4 redstone and 4 glowstone anymore. It has been changed to be more inline with the Anime - Fullmetal Alchemist.

You need to kill living things to get these red shards, can't remember what their called right now, and once you have 8 of those you can combine it with a stone and get an inert stone. This is not a Philosopher's Stone yet. You need to then take the inert stone and find some Red Water - beware this stuff is seriously bad news - and then drop the inert stone into the red water.

The inert stone will then become a Minium Stone - not a philosopher's stone yet - but with most of the same functionality, but with one major differencem, it will break after a set number of uses. Then adding I believe 8 minium stones with some other ingredient will finally get you the phliosopher's stone.

As for other balance issues, IC2 - Compact Solars were removed and replaced with Advanced Solars. Solars are more expensive. There is also another mod - Gregtech - which adds High-end IC machines and I do mean High-end.

The biggest change is that all the mods just work very well together and items/resources from different mods can be used in recipes for most of the other mods. SO integration between mods is the biggest change. As far as automation goes it has been extended way beyond what Tekkit offers and with the addition of Forestry automated Tree farms, rubber farms, wheat farms and the bees and bee products add so much to the game it is insane.

Factorization has also been added and if you ever thought Tekkit needed more machines and automation this will definitely be a mod for you. More ores have been added and everything is 1.4.2 compatible.
