Hey guys, I'm trying to gauge if there are any ways to improve the Steam community giveaways. Please leave any comments or ideas regarding how it's currently running, whether you think the criteria is fair, etc.

Also please vote in the attached poll (please be honest, voting is anonymous).

I'm quite happy with how it's all working at the moment. Sure some people have been super lucky but it's part of the game. I check the front page regularly but only enter for games that I really really want since I've got a wee bit (big) of a backlog.

Outlast is currently available for very cheap at GamersGate. I think one thing that would really improve the MyGaming Steam Community Giveaways would be to give it away. *nudge nudge wink wink*

Reading this on Tapatalk so don't see the poll.

My only recommendation is that more giveaways should have a min contribution amount. This will encourage some of the "lurker" entrants to also join the party

Use webview on Tapatalk and you'll see the poll.

This.

I've considered going with the store amount or even more, depending on how popular the game is.

If it ain't fix, don't broke it!

Unfortunately it is pretty broken.

We have less than 20 people that actually take part in the giveaways, most giveaways don't even have more than 5 entries, and I think a lot of people don't even know about them at all.

Eugene, I think that the community give-away has been a great initiative, with great response from all involved. I myself have won some pretty awesome games via the GA's. From my side I can't think of a way to improve the process, as I feel that the current requirements to join the group is fair. As long as the people entering give-aways are either giving away games themselves, or contribution to the forum outside the one thread, then there is no problem.

I think the problem is that most of the games that are given away are a bit more obscure, and I'm not going to enter a give-away just to get a game I'm probable not going to play. But then again, you can't really tell people what to spend their money on.

I totally agree with all of this. I have really enjoyed the GAs and watching other people win. I have been fortunate to pick up a couple myself, but this is not really why I participate. It's just good fun.

I think the reason why there are so few entries is that most people don't enter for games that they have no interest in playing. If this giveaway group was abandoned, I think it would be a great pity as it offers everyone a little bit of fun and helps foster the sense of community here.

Maybe creating a minimum giveaway entry requirement is a good idea to encourage people to keep giving.

Also, maybe it's just me but MyGaming has been very quiet these last couple of months. I think that after the competitions earlier in the year the traffic to the MyGaming forums has died down a lot.

Quite a few of us only enter for games that we really want to play. I don't even enter if it's a game that I find interesting but know I will never really make time for it.

IMO, to really promote the giveaway front page, we sort of need to give it a bit more hype.

Something like a countdown timer to the GA of an over-hyped pre-order game.
Then below it, have something that says "Check out the current GAs while you wait".
Make the attraction GA very short, like 48hrs only.
Once the attraction GA is over, you can promote it by saying "oh noes! you JUST missed out on <big title> ..be sure to check this page more regularly for more over marketed game giveaways."

Of course, this exercise will be expensive. Freaking $60 for a new game these days :(
...Maybe MyGaming can subsidize some of the cost :p

On entering GAs... my library is getting a wee bit bloated - I enter GAs very selectively.

Im pretty happy with how it is going, one a few nice games, its one of the threads I mainly look through nowadays.

I only really enter into games I want, and as Stunt said Mygaming has been fairly quite recently, but we still do see quite a few people entering into the "bigger" games.

I do agree with the Contributor value thing, it will definitely help if you open the GA's to everyone.
