Two writers at men's magazine FHM have been suspended for making comments about correctional rape on Facebook on Tuesday, City Press reported.

"FHM was horrified to learn of the incredibly offensive comments made by two of our staff members on their private Facebook pages," editor Brendan Cooper told the newspaper.

"These comments in no way reflect FHM's values. The opinions expressed are hurtful and deeply offensive and entirely unacceptable to FHM's management."

Just read the article on citypress. Sickening how little people can think of such tragic experience lived by a lot of victims everyday.

Serves them right. Shtty comment to make in SA. In another country it would just be dubious & he might have gotten away with it, here its a disgrace though.

haha Am I the only one who found this very funny?

But seriously this is something you tell your friends, not publicly, with everyone being sooooo serious lately.

Corrective rape is a major problem in South Africa. It's something which many African cultures thinks is normal. Making jokes in which you condone corrective rape is tasteless and disgusting. There is absolutely nothing humorous about corrective rape, or rape for that matter.

These guys should be fired, nevermind suspended.

I used to have respect for journalists and their profession but I've come to realise that the only difference between most journalists and the regular turd you find on the internet is that journalists get paid to type crap.

In truth I'd judge anyone harshly who said something like this under any circumstances whatsoever. Funny you say - yes I can appreciate what the author was *attempting* to convey sure, but the actual execution was so far off the mark that this does not matter.

I'll admit I am as Lyt says one of those who tends to take things very seriously. Yet somehow this just hits that sensitive spot for me - something that just rubs me the wrong way deep down.

And before anyone assumes I'm somehow biased - no I don't know a single person that has been raped (as far as my knowledge extends & myself included).

Guy might have known that it's actually "corrective rape" and not correctional rape if he was a proper journalist who bothered to do his research. If you're going to troll, at least get it right.

I'm glad I don't have anything to do with FHM. Why bother buying a lad's mag, when you can get free girlie pics accompanied by pervy comments over in the image of the day thread?

You judge them too harshly imo. My sister is a journalist. See Firefly S01E01 44:35 for details. :)

Reporting verbatim. Sure the reporter could have added a (sic) to the one instance where its not in quotation marks, but on the whole he/she isn't that far off the mark.

I was talking about the guy who posted the comment originally.

It's just that correctional rape sounds like it takes place in a prison. Might be a bit misleading.

I get what you're saying, but rape is rape and in my opinion if you can joke about it, you can sure as hell do it. Not to judge anyone but thats just my opinion.;)

Stopped reading FHM about 10 years ago after their "How to Kill Stuff" article - an "hilarious" three pages dedicated to proper methods of killing spiders, insects and so forth . That in conjunction with their cringe inducing ass kissing of whatever model they stick in there is enough to make me puke.

It's not far off the mark. Correctional rape is often considered a 'punishment' intended to 'fix' behaviour. Many cultures use it in circumstances such as when someone is guilty of adultery and 'fixing' lesbians.
