Fifa 13

Firstly, sorry if I am creating a duplicate thread, but couldn't find another Fifa 13 one.

So the game launched last night, and I'd like to know what guys think of it so far if they have managed to play it yet. I am however referring most;y to the pc version. How does it differ from Fifa 12, and are there really any significant changes or is it mostly cosmetic?

Thanks

I plan on getting it during the weekend (the PC version), I will give you my impressions on it once I have it:).

I have spent an entire afternoon playing FIFA 13, and as promised, here are some of my impressions...

First thing's first, this game is indeed bang for your buck. A few things have only been slightly touched up and a few more things have seen improvement akin to an overhaul. All this makes for a completely brilliant experience. The 1st thing you'll notice is the slightly revamped UI, which doesn't hurt at all. Exhibition matches (Kick-off option) give you the option to play with your team's default form or to use your team's current real life form (a small, but valuable change).

The Career mode (Manager, I haven't yet tried as a player) is much more improved as well. Just as with FIFA 12, players can make requests, then subsequently praise or moan about your actions thereafter, but now, even the commentators get in on the fun, discussing whether or not a transfer affects a certain player, even the morale of said player. Transfers are much more in depth than what was offered in previous FIFA iterations: You can make an inquiry to a club about a certain player you may have interest in before you make an offer, the club would reply with what they think their player and more.

I've only played the Manager mode and a few exhibition matches, so, let's get to the actual meat of the game, the gameplay itself.
Graphically, its seen a few touch ups, but not much (and it doesn't matter). The gameplay is what makes this game FIFA 13 and not FIFA 12.2...

The new dynamic one-touch system is awesome to witness. It makes the game more realistic than ever, with some brilliant 1st touches along some frustrating ones, which all seem plausible in a real life match. It's very balanced in that it allows you to be thoughtful of how you pass or lob the ball, and to whom you pass it.

The Collision engine is now more refined. I've yet to experience some of the awkward collision that FIFA 12 produced. Basically, what you see in the game is what you'd expect to see in a real life game. The attacking AI is also much more improved in creating openings, changing positions to accommodate a counter attack, or even just to provide extra man in front of goal.

The pace of the game is something I have to mention, it might be a stretch, but it feels like a mixture of FIFA 11 and FIFA 12's pace, and I love it... There are a lot more improvements, but bottom line is, FIFA 13 is worth your cash:D.

Feel free to press the little star button under my impressions post:D...

EDIT: By the way, I'm a little surprised that they still kept the fan graphics the same as FIFA 12, they're not a game breaker, but it's a little disorienting when you're shown the pre-match presentation and you see the Stadium and the players coming out of the tunnel, and right in the middle of that, you see the fans in all their 2D jagged egde glory... Oh well, it is what it is:rolleyes:

Its the little things that count

Just out of curiosity, what's your take on the 'Tactical Defending' mechanic? Personally I'm not a fan of it... But then again, it's probably because I haven't fully mastered it:rolleyes:.

At the moment its all new to me, so im still playing in semi pro mode. Bit of a struggle. The AI is way different from the last title i played which was probably Fifa 09 or Fifa 10. In general i like a lot of the changes. I find defending very difficult, but the skill games help. Im honestly not even sure what the tactical defending mechanic is.

Check your controller settings, and on the screen showing assisted settings, you'll see an option for defending (last option on the screen), the options are Tactical Defending (introduced in FIFA 12) or Legacy Defending (From previous FIFA titles up until FIFA 11)... If you're having trouble defending on semi-pro then I suspect you're using Tactical Defending, I suggest you try Legacy Defending before going the Tactical route...

EDIT: Just note that you're stuck with Tactical Defending for online games (I have no clue why EA would do that:()

Thanks for the tip. I must check it out. There are so many variables to consider, one thing that really annoys me is auto switching. Haven't found the place to turn that off yet.

No problem... You can change the auto-switching settings on the same controller settings screen where you find the defending options;)

say what ????????? Its the best FIFA I have played

What exactly about it let you Down ?

My thoughts exactly, what are your thoughts on the Tactical Defense? Are you at home with it? or would you rather use Legacy Defending?

If you happen to be at home with Tactical Defending, do you have any tips to get the most out of it:)?

I'm still on the fence about it, my 1st online league match was a 2-1 comeback win, my 2nd was a 3-0 loss. So, it's safe to say the Tactical Defense system is still hit and miss for some of us:o.

I find defending a bugger to be honest. Struggling with it, but something i guess i need to get the hang of. Saint you must PM me your origin details so we can have online game, though i suspect i'll be in for a hiding of note :D

Yeah defending requires some skill at the best of times.

Defending changed in Fifa 12, from button mashing "X" towards the attacked. Now you lunge wrong and it's all over. It was quite a challenge changing from that at first, but as I'm used to it now come Fifa 13, I can play online and against AI of harder levels. It's more about jockeying and then tackling at the right time. Takes some practice.
