Fist of Jesus

I do not think G-man is religious, or has a religious belief, thus, such what he says he cannot see problems with.
I just remember previous debates were he wanted people to respect his lifestyle and believes but he can't return the same respect to my believes. Wtf

Is that what I said? No, it's not. I was merely commenting on the fact that some people said it was a cheap marketing tactic on the developer's part. I still don't see how that is the case since the game is based on a film. If I make a game based on Hostel or a similar movie, I don't see how the controversy around it can be called a cheap marketing tactic. However, if they developed the game first, without any connection to the film, and then changed the game and the title after watching the film, then it becones justified to call it a marketing tactic.

Capitalizing on the success of established works without adding anything of value to those works is also considered a cheap marketing tactic. The developers are riding on the success and controversy created by the film and undoubtedly wish to stir the pot further. It clearly has crappy gameplay and doesn't bring anything new to the table other than the fact that it's a game featuring Jesus. This is a lazy way to drive publicity around an otherwise uninteresting game.

Instead of focusing on the fact that the game is offending or not offending some people, I think it's far more concerning that a piece of turd like this is being given any media attention at all. This is obviously what the developers intended when they created the game. Rather than aspire to entertain, the developers aspired to sow controversy and make a quick buck from it. That alone makes me feel nothing but contempt for them.

Anyway, I was just voicing my opinion. If you don't agree with it that's cool, doesn't bother me one bit, much like the game and film in question.

You somehow completely absolved the developers of any responsibility because the film crew originally came up with the concept. Although I agree that some of the blame belongs with the film crew I don't agree that the game developers should get off scott-free.

The developers could have backed off and said, hey we don't feel comfortable doing this...

TL;DR

Religious people are waaayyyy too sensitive...

Depending on the context of "waaayyyy".
My father is VERY religious. At least once a day he'll make some reference to the LORD, Jesus Christ. He's incredibly loyal to his faith.

Any sort of seemingly blasphemous remark or comment, or just seemingly a comment about religion will get him talking. When he's talking religiously I typically just stare (no nods or anything).

Anyway... If any religious person sees what may be a reference to religion, but in a (seemingly) non-religious way - you can expect eyebrows and questions to be raised.

It might have seemed that way from the way I worded my post but I did not mean to say that the developers should be completely absolved and I apologise if it came across as such. I just meant to say that most of the blame should rather be directed towards the filmmakers as they originally came up with the whole Fist of Jesus concept. I can understand that it is offensive to some people, but I don't take either the game or the film seriously so they don't really bother me.

Ah ok, fair enough.

Of course you know why it's offensive. If you honestly can't see why it's offensive then I worry about your lack of empathy.

No, I'm genuinely not sure why any christian would look at that game and say that it is offensive. What is offensive about it? It depicts Jesus as a cartoon hero who punches zombies, therefore offense?

I think people are just a bit quick to get offended, really. It's not like we haven't had countless games where you played as well known gods before now. I don't see anything to be empathetic about.

Wow, just wow is all I can say.

You really need to have your tag changed. It's the most ill-suited tag on these forums.

Remind me again how a harmless satirical little game that you don't have to buy is affecting your quality of life or ability to practice your religion?

Ha-haaaaa!

This thread should really be renamed. It's no longer primarily about a game - it's now a hot topic for religion.

This is not going to end well........the only way to explain why this is offensive to Christians is to go into a fair amount of detail. All this will result in is this degenerating into MyBB PD discussion.

I'm sure it won't. We're all adults and I'm sure the mods can step in long before things get out of hand. By all means, I really want to hear why christians think this is offensive.

I genuinely don't understand why offense needs to be taken here or why christianity should be off-limits for satirical games.

I'm inclined to agree. As entertaining as internet religion debates may be, there are never any winners. I'd suggest that if we aren't going to stay on topic and actually discuss this game, the we rather just leave this thread alone.

This thread should be closed since Kevin has created another.
