Ahem, they both are, the one is the sequel to the other. He was just more involved in the one title than the other.

The fishy one is correct. Starlancer was all Chris Roberts (and his brother Erin)

The sequel, Freelancer, was conceived by Roberts, and he was responsible for its initial design and development. But before its' release Digital Anvil was sold to Microsoft and he left (to make movies). He still acted as a "consultant" for MS on the game, but his direct involvement in the game that was eventually released was limited. He is not credited directly with either "producer" or "designer" of Freelancer.

Roberts suggested in his original pitch for Star Citizen in 2012 that he had been dreaming of creating "the spiritual successor to Freelancer" and that he was hoping SC would be it.
