Forums kill Facebook, Twitter - start communicating like an adult ;)

Where are all these vids coming from? Are you guys starting to advertise or is someone at the office just having fun with some video editing tools? :)

MyBroadband conference is coming up. We want some videos to show the delegates, plus we're doing some for fun :)

"Communicating like an adult" a bold claim considering some of the conversations on here & MyBB.

I actually went onto MyBB last night (someone posted pics of the Golf 7 GTI, so I had to go look), but the site was down with only video links to three videos, this one being one of them. I kept the video open in my browser and only watched it now and then I found this thread :)

I for one prefer MyG and MyBB over any of the social networking junk out there. With Facebook and Twitter, it just makes it too easy for any idiot to utter whatever nonsense they can come up with which would have otherwise probably went unsaid. I'm on this forum a couple of times a day, every day but I check into Facebook once or twice a month (if I remember).
So I approve this video... and posting it on Facebook :D

Still beats a lot of the nonsense people utter on Facebook and Twitter.

Forums may have their fair share of trolling and childish outbursts - but there's no other platform where people will call you out on your bullcrap quicker.

Social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook are based on the ever-flowing stream of information - something you said last year is easily lost and forgotten. Forums keep all that information - and use it against you if need be ;)

That's the difference.

/sees a vaguely familiar user:p

Yeah, I'd like to think that this platform inspires more honesty and thought than what is inspired by Twitter or Failbook

Yeah maybe the level of communication is always as mature as we'd like but overall it's generally more substantive than what you'll find on Facebook or Twitter.

The tripe found on Twitter and Facebook could make you give up hope in humanity in a matter of seconds:D

Dude - that was an awesome add. Well done. The main difference for me between Facebook and online forums is that I have friends on Facebook. lol. (flame all you want, look at my "troll rating" and it proves my point). I totally love forums, but I take some forums more seriously than others. For example, and I know you won't believe this, on the forum where I discuss stuff about my car (brand and model) - I'm actually quite respected by the community :D

The negative side about forums is that you have "clicks" like you do in high school or any other crowded environment (like prison) where the people who do not somehow "conform" to the views of the masses on the forum get shunned, boo'ed and labelled as trolls. On Facebook and Twitter - you're actually FREE to be yourself and raise YOUR views.

For me:

Twitter / Facebook = sharing random thoughts and being creative without some "mob" waiting to burn you at the stake.
Online Forums = get information about specific topics or problems. beware the trolls.

I actually don't think it's fair to compare Facebook and Twitter to forums. The information exchanged on the 2 mediums is completely different. It's also not fair to say that forums are "more mature", because let's be honest here - there are some GEMS on this very forum to disprove that disposition.

Actually, it's my opinion that some people use forums, rather than Twitter, simply because they don't know how to compress their insults into the limited amount of characters that apply to Twitter posts. And if those same people portrayed the same persona on their Facebook profiles as they do on some forums, they simply wouldn't have any friends on their profile (except for that hot chick who just friended you - it's a bot, btw.)

I'm busy (almost done :D) with a social media marketing course and in the 7th module they only "touch" on forums. I think forums deserve a lot more attention and are extremely underrated
