Free games on xbox live (For Gold)

Halo 3 was a cool game, if an old one (being the flagship game from when the xbox 360 was released). However I see that even though the game is free, and I should have some credit in my account anyway since I had some MS Points when they switched to currency, XBox.com won't let me "buy" the game for free unless they have my credit card details.

After some reading, it seems as though they haven't updated the website for the recent MSP to Currency changes, and it should work from the console, but that is damn annoying.

I've tried. My account has got something that's preventing it from moving... I'm really not bothered enough to try and contact MS about it. and I've read there's nothing they can do in rare cases like mine (forget the specifics)...

I've been able to get most the Games with Gold games, include AC:II, but a few, like this, aren't happening... Its a Canadian account from when I used to live there.

It was previously only confirmed that the promotion would run until the end of the year. There's still no news on whether or not it'll cross over onto Xbox One, though.

They will have to. It is doing Sony loads of good giving gamers great games and it will only serve to promote the Xbox that much more if Microsoft keep it up. All they need to do now is add better games and they are set.
 
i am on a UK account and live in SA now. before i had no problems getting my free game (even the Might and Magic game from last week worked. Halo 3 is the first game not downloading:

Welcome to the club :( You could probably try and find a UK proxy but that breaks their terms and agreements, and you'd risk being banned. At least with UK -> SA you're still on a PAL system, so you don't have to worry about that piece of the puzzle.
 
On a related matter:
After having a chat with MS on Facebook about the iTunes situation regarding games and related apps for South Africa we now have Smart Glass in the ZA app store.
 
South Africa's Games for Gold is still showing Halo 3. However I see that internationally the free game is "A World of Keflings". If it's the same here then I think I'll skip it.
 
Interestingly I see that the free game for South Africa in the first half of February is Dead Island Riptide while the rest of the world gets the first Dead Island.

Is that a win for us? Which one was the best?
 
I see that May's Games With Gold games haven't been announced yet. Tomorrow is the first. It's the latest they've been with an announcement so far.
