New website makes it possible to send and receive SMSs free of charge.
A new website, FSMS.co.za, has been launched this week which allows subscribers to send unlimited free SMSs though its web interface. “Our service is completely unique in that users can reply to SMSs sent from the website and the sender will receive a reply in their inbox on the website,†said Daniel Schwartzkopff, CEO of LaunchPresence.com.
“There are absolutely no restrictions on the service at the moment, provided you do not abuse it by spamming others or performing otherwise illegal or unethical tasks,†said Schwartzkopff.
The service is currently not making any money, but Schwartzkopff explains that the business model will eventually rely on a small ad text appended to the bottom of the SMS, where it currently displays 'message via FSMS.co.za, WAP and WEB'.
“This is built into a 'Google Adwords-esque' back-end which can be targeted to specific users by their demographic, but until we reach our target of 25 000 it will remain absolutely advertising free,†said Schwartzkopff.
