Future Technology

Good day Gamers and Gamerettes

I am doing an article for college on the Gaming Community and I want to start a discussion with regards to future technology and gaming. (I am an avid gamer myself!)

In your opinion, how do you think gamers will communicate with each other 50 years from now? (Remember, the mouse wasnt even invented 50 years ago, and just look at technology today!! So your imagination is the limit)

I have an idea that we could all be using virtual reality as a way of interacting.( So gamers would get together in a virtual room where we could see one another and interact as if we were all physically there.)

What are your opinions and thoughts on this?

How would you as a gamer want to interact with the other gamers that you play online with?

Hey Jazz and welcome to the forum.

Heres my opinion (Please note i play mostly mmo's and strat games)

1 MMO's . Take people likes these for example modding a mouse into a glove http://hackaday.com/2010/02/19/glove-mouse/ . Soon one i day and i hope that MMO's will be able to incorporate something similar where we would have to do the actual movements OURSELVES, Not a simple mouse click. Would be funny seeing all your mates that you go to their place and you see them jogging on the spot and swinging swords (Natal or PlayStation Motion Controller Mod anyone? :p)

2. Strat Games. Already Strat games are based on the strategys one thinks up and executes, now imagine how much faster and harder when playing against another human if they some how made a contraption that could actually pick up on brain waves on how you think? The level of gameplay would actually compute to another level entirely. This also opens up the doors to not only people that cannot play games due to disablities (such as ppl with no arms) but every one of every age and who knows maybe one day they do this and you play against the US Defence Force Tactician (spelling) and you take his job if you beat him :P

My views for now

Wow my longest post ever

THE MATRIX!!! :D

No? Well the most logical assumptions would lead to a Matrix escue world. But it doesn't factor in the human eliment. Alot of people wouldn't really want to live in a virtual reality. they want real risk and thrill in there lives. (Just look at extreme sports junkies) while the rest of us (like me) would happily accept and live in a virtual reality with no or little actual risk to the body and with no or little permanent consequenses.

Than theres science fiction elements we can examine. For example in the Dune univerce. Computer based AI has basicly been outlawed and rendered heretical because in the past (relative to the Dune story) the computers tried to take over. So the commandment "Thau shalt not make a computer in the image of man." came to be. Something like that is not beyond possible and might even become true.

I have to agree with caboos, in 50 years it will be virtual reality, maybe something like gamer (but without the actual human lives), I certainly hope the world won't be like the matrix or dune, oh also I recon graphics will be photo realistic by that point and sound also life like, oh and the console and PC will become one

You can read my blog on the future of cellphone gaming and how it is becoming apart of console gaming :D
