I don't see that happening, both of them have a made an immense amount of money from those consoles. Why would they simply abandon a good income stream just because somebody else also wants a slice?

That's the way I see it as well. One does not simply pack up and leave when you're raking in the cash.

I'm sure they'll all milk it as long as they can. I'd like to see more PC-like backward compatibility.

This prediction is a bit unlikely, cause even if one of the companies move to an online service, they will loose alot of revenue to countries where broadband is unavailable or unpredictable or here is SA where is slow and make the expierence horrible.

And its true what has been said in this thread, both MS and Sony have invested tons of cash in the console market, and they not likely to stop and move on to something else.... The would be the worst thing they could do.

If I was a direct competitor to Microsoft and Sony I would also predict that they drop out of the market, of course by predict I mean hope and pray.
