Gameplay Trailer for Mass-Murdering Shooter Is Beyond Brutal

I don't think that's a valid excuse any more these days. The gaming in general is looking to prove it's a legitimate industry, e sports are entering the global arena of sport and millions of individuals are using gaming to make a living. From small indie developers to massive studios, name brand reviewers and professional players, gaming is no longer just a hobby or a game, its serious economic industry. You can't ask for the world to take you seriously whilst also saying don't take this and that seriously.

Okay, hypothetical example here: Replace the word game with film and you are basically saying specific film types should not be made?

*edit*

From a publicist's point of view this game has basically won.

I dont see why its a big deal, yes its an industry, but people are just coming up with excuses to blame violence on. honestly. violence isnt caused by gaming, the people who do the violence are. Their minds are. Its not because of a game that a person will go nuts, its the person.

PS. This is my opinion, not meant to offend anyone, just stating my personal opinion.

Look at your answer carefully, you claim to understand other views but don't accept they are out there. While you are ok with this game many are not.

I'm not offended by your views, I don't agree with them that's ok, but you are also not going to convince me that we need this sort of game out there.

I do understand what people are saying, and accept that. You also have to understand that people are being too critical on one area of industry. Why is it that if a film is released about a mass murderer it becomes entertaining, yet a game is said to be sick?

Perhaps there is a distinction to be made, although somewhat hypocritically, between film (where I watch something) and a game (where I control something). I don't know....

I find films more descriptive and psychologically interactive than games as you have to think what you would have done in that situation and what the outcomes would be, while with games you just do what is expected.

I agree with the both of you, but I do believe in games it is a moral choice.

Game gives you weapon, you choose what to do.
Movies (or other type of entertainment mediums) does not give you weapon, and makes the choice for you; you just have to live with the outcome. Games give you a choice... Hell, stop playing it - same with a movie - if you so desire.

Exactly :)

a kid will go on a killing spree at his high school after playing this game.
I can see the endless headlines already...

Haha! I read some of the comments while the trailer was caching and thought: sheesh! Hypocrites! You will kill hundreds and thousands of people in games all the time. Then we move off-world and kill even more peace loving creatures on their home planets.

Then I watched the trailer and I was like "Ah. Now I get it." I won't be playing this, thank you. Freedom of speech and all that allows you to make games like this, and you sickos can have fun playing it and then with yourselves... Waaaay too OTT for me!

I have no problem with violence in games but this is sick. In most games there is a story behind the killing but this story is pathetic.

I think that if your method of suicide is to go out and kill as many innocent people before you get shot then your a special kind of twisted. I mean those are innocent people who did nothing to ruin your life and you decide to destroy as many families as possible because your unhappy, personally I think the police should stun you and sentence you to 50 years of shock therapy. Now here we have a game that's glorifys this behaviour. What's next chemical warfare innocent village genocide edition, hitlers gas chamber simulator, baby skeet shooting?

Why isn't there already a baby skeet shooting game. i wants!

I am going to say this. What about the scene when you send incendiary mortar down on innocent civilians(including children). Which I think is a lot worse than this game. But anyway can't argue with people on this forum. One big circle jerk.

It's important to understand that there are other views out there that are different to yours, it's not about right or wrong. Somehow you will have to develop an ability to deal with this sort of thing.

Don't bother, Tsar is being overly sensitive.
This game is a poor attempt at headline grabs and you need to be a special kind of twisted to enjoy it.

This is a "love it or hate it" game and game trailer. And I hate it; ironic, given its name.

"The further away you are from a reality, the less real it'll seem to you."

This, to me, explains why people involve themselves in certain games/films/you-name-it without the "normal" or expected psychological reactions. It obviously doesn't account for everyone's actions, but I believe it does for the majority of people.

Disclaimer: I am by no means able to make exact and accurate claims on specific matters as I am far from a psychologist or medical practitioner, I have my interests in Geography and the modern English language.

Firstly, this may sound hypocritical but it's true. Opinions are like shit, everyones stinks.
Luckily I believe that everyone has a right to voice theirs regardless of their beliefs on the matter sometimes we just have to agree to disagree with someone and be an adult about it. Accept that not matter what we think someone else will always have a different opinion.

Secondly, games to not make violent people, violence makes people violent, this has been proven over and over again.

Thirdly, I am making a very crude example of this but... Postal, Manhunt, 25 to life where violent games, and can not be justified by saying well you are killing criminals. Killing in our modern society is wrong and killing someone because you are told or believe that their actions are causing danger is also fundamentally wrong.
I won't go into detail about this because it can be split and debated into many other topics including the topic of self preservation. Put simply - killing someone because they are bad is just not right, that said killing someone who is good is not right either.

Finally, Will I play this game? Yes. Will I enjoy it? Possibly, I can't be too sure about it until I have played it. Does it make a bad person? According to me no.Others might differ in opinion and as I stated at the start I accept the fact that some may not agree.

What I do believe is this: It is a bunch of pixels, and if you do find pleasure in a game like this then depending on the pleasure you receive from it you may need to receive some form of medical attention and counselling. However if you do play it and seem to become aroused or infatuated by it I believe that you are suffering some form of repressive emotions that are being brought out by the relief that you are finding with in the game. Again the game is not to blame but the immense amount of mental or physical abuse that you may have suffered at some point in your life is now being brought out and offset by the game.

I'll leave you with this to think about.

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you. - Friedrich Nietzsche

I agree with you. I think a big factor for the disagreement in this thread is the arbitrary definitions of good and bad.

I feel certain games/films/you-name-it gives people an unnecessary wisdom. Ignorance is bliss.

Yep, while I agree with what you say, there are many who will pick up on this and use it as another rod for the video game industry, like it or not, you cannot ignore it.

Secondly, while the majority of folk on the forum have a well formed view of reality, there may be some who will struggle and even be encouraged by this sort of game to 'act it out' - do we need to encourage or even support more 'violence' albeit in a game, in a world that becomes more desensitized than ever.

I look at a new game like Shadows of Mordor, very violent, but I'm killing orcs and the like, so it's fantasy and I can live with it. It does seem hypocritical.

There is just something the Hatred trailer that is deeply disturbing and as supporters of the video game industry, I do not want to see the industry head in this direction. I will vote with my wallet and not buy this, but I do worry about this intense drive for exact realism in games. I like my entertainment to be distanced from reality - the world is a scary enough place.

As you say, this is an immensely complex subject, but I do enjoy the varied views and restraint shown by most as we discuss this.
