What would be your reaction if the cellular operators in South Africa offered special bundles/contracts for online gaming?

It would be great for those without access to ADSL. For me it would be pointless as I have ADSL and that is my answer to the poll as well. But for others it would be great.

I have a couple of friends that try to play online using 3G, either they reach their caps after a few days or their signal is so bad they cannot connect to begin with.

I game using LTE. Now I don't play online that often but my pings are crazy low and I don't suffer any lag at all. So yes, some people here mention that 3G is not the best for gaming but LTE is amazing.

So yes, there is a market for deals like this.

I don't have access to ADSL and play Battlefield 3 / 4 on 3G via Vodacom. My ping isnt as good as some ADSL pings are, but its mostly in the 50-70ms which isnt that bad. Some nights its unplayable, but I think its just that the tower is congested.

Still, have played 127 hours in Battlefield 3, ALL over 3G. Starting with BF4 now.

I've got a 2Gb (+2gb night owl) bundle, which Vodacom bumped up to 3Gb. Obviously have to be careful what I do each month and updates are courtesy of office internet.

I also used to play Diablo 3 on 3G and played over 300 hours. So it's definitely possible to game on 3G. :)

Good feedback in this post :)

What about a bundle/package that allows you to download games/content from STEAM/PS Online/XBOX Live at highly reduced rates?

I would love that. However it depends on the network. I've had some bad experiences with Cell C so I doubt I'll ever use anything by them again.

It would be a great idea to offer mobile data packages for gamers. My only problem is the latency (my 3G connection latency is really crap :( ). I am sure LTE gaming packages would do the trick, since its newer technology and I've seen on various speedtests and posts on MyBB of the latency being quite sweet.

I already have ADSL, so not for me, but it might be nice for people who can't get ADSL in their area, or who are renting or move often.

3G isn't really suitable for gaming so that wouldn't make sense. If you could get an affordable bundle with a decent amount of bandwidth on an LTE connection, that would be cool though.

Well, I can assure you guys that LTE is very much capable of providing super-low latencies. You're looking at 30ms or less sometimes to webafrica's servers. The only problem with LTE at this stage is that it's not very wide-spread, but this discussion is about stuff that could happen in the future any ways :)

If the bundle had a decent cap which didn't count gaming(steam/origin/uplay downloads) as well as streaming(netflix/youtube), I'd be interested :).
