Gamer girlfriends - how to get one

What I’m trying to say is a gamer girl is like any other girl. Just be (read: fake being) confident, be yourself, and don’t get too hung up on the fact that she plays games.
You got that perfectly right! Besides no girl wants a guy to like her just because she plays games. Playing games is something we do, not who we are. Guys should like the girl, not the gamer.

I have seen this mythical creature in the wild & feel the guide is woefully inadequate in the advice department because its missing one key piece of advice:

Don't stick it in crazy.

I know exactly 1 hardcore gamer girl....and she is bat shit insane. You know the kind where you blink & stare wondering whether maybe *that* particular kind of insane is powerful enough to be contagious....

Don’t try bat above your average
Screw that. Fortune favours the bold.

It's not magic to get along in game
erm.gif

No it isn't magic at all.
What is however magic, is telling your wife/girlfriend that "your performance is godawful and I'm going to have to kick you if it doesn't improve within the next 3 attempts".

... Without her taking it back to the bedroom...

I totally have a Portal 2 co-op date tomorrow night. ^____^

Lol, just wait until he can't find the button you're waving your gun at.

"IT'S RIGHT THERE! FFS! MORON."

Well, at least that's how my Portal co-op experiences go.

Thanks for all the awesome comments guys, you had me in stitches :D

So many inadvertently inappropriate Portal quotes are coming to mind now too.

Bwahahahaha! Rather than risk being ban hammered, I'll not even go there! I'll rather just say, have fun and watch your portal!

Back to the article though, I think there could pro's and cons to having a partner who is also into gaming. There are too many to list, but I will say this, my wife likes games and so do I, but not the same types. She likes games like Peggle, or hidden object games or Plants vs Zombies or Sims 3(with cheats). She is not into shooters or RPGs or RTS. The good thing though with her liking games is that it means that I can play without being hassled that we don't spend time together.

This is indeed the single and largest benefit of having a partner that not only understands gaming as a pass-time, but also has first-hand experience in it.

At the same time it is also the biggest misconception.
A LOT of guys think that if they can only bag that gamer-girl, then they will never have to {insert exaggerated girly-activity here} again.
If she cares enough to leave you be and even sometimes indulge you in your activities, you should want to do the same for her...

Heck, I once went to a health-spa just because she wanted to go. She didn't ask or demand or offer or nothing.
I just decided she might enjoy my company while we get our feet scrubbed by some random stranger...

The only game I've got that my wife has enjoyed is guitar hero, although there was some initial interest in the wii as well

Some stuff that my girlfriend likes that might be handy:

Guitar Hero (any) -> Xbox 360
Viva Pinata -> Xbox 360
Mini Ninjas -> Xbox 360
Super Mario Galaxy -> Wii
New Carnival Games -> Wii
Wii Sports Resort -> Wii (duh)
Little Big Planet -> PS3

She found those entertaining. Oddly enough she didn't like ModNation Racers. There are some games that are girlfriend-friendly...but...none of them are really any good (hehehe not totally true, there are some good ones, like SMG and LBP)

My girlfriend is into beat em ups like MMA and wwe wrestling. And zombie-killing games like Dead Rising. And she enjoys roaming around in GTA and blowing peoples heads off. Strange woman, that one.

Should i be worried about my safety? :wtf:
